Special Ed Pre-K spinoff question

So there is a special needs school near where I live, Hagedorn Little Village. My DS is still too young, but was just thinking when he eventually does get to Pre-K age... how does a school like this work? Would DS get all of his services there? (Right now he is approved for Speech and ABA through EI) Do schools like this have an option for extended hours, for example, if say, the school opens up at 9, is there an option to drop them off early, if you are a working parent?

Special Ed Pre-K spinoff question

LV is one of the hardest schools to get into for CPSE & CSE (unless you are wiling to take a 1/2 program if they have one available... they do have a daycare, but that would also depends on your child and their needs.

most special ed preschools do not offer before and after care.

all if not most services are done during school hours, and some children receive additional hours at home.

with us.. DS at age 3 went to school full day and still received Speech and 10 hours of ABA and we decreased it by the age of 4 to speech and 5 hours of ABA. once he went to K he received all his services in school plus 2 hours at home.

i guess to answer your question, most pre-schools do not offer before or after care

DS is 5 and in the UPK through my district. They offer before and after care that is paid out of pocket if needed. It has worked out well for us. He receives OT at school now. Last year in nursery school, I had the SEIT working with him one of the days he was at school, and OT would be at home. SEIT also did other session at home.

Thank you, good to know. I just didn't know if schools allow therapy to take place on site as well unless it was a special needs school. If you don't mind sharing with me the full day pre school you took your LO to, that would be great. Thanks.

Re: Special Ed Pre-K spinoff question

My DS was in daycare when his services started. When he started in a half day program at a special ed preschool, the bus picked him up from daycare, brought him to school and then brought him back to daycare. Once he started full day, I put him on the bus in the morning from home and then they bussed him to daycare after school. The daycare was willing to keep him there until he started Kindergarten.

Little Village is hard to get into, but they have Toddler Time on their campus, which is a daycare/preschool run separately from the school. I know that Leeds Center in Manhasset also has a daycare center attached to it. If you have an idea of where your child might possibly be attending school, it might be wise to call the schools and ask if they have an extended care or daycare associated with the school.
