*Updated 5/19/14* Ladies with Hypothyroidism: need advice
So i went to my regular doctor in February and she had found that my thyroid was low at 10. She then put me on levothyroxine 25mcg. It so happens a week after that i started seeing my RE and he had tested my thyroid and said it was fine and it was only 1.29. So my RE said to continue my meds since my thyroid may have just fluctuated.
So i really didn't think much after that until my RE tested my thyroid again 2 weeks ago and it was 1.30 so i thought the meds were working and everything was fine. So i thought.
I went to my medical doctor this week for a checkup and she said my bloodwork came back with my thyroid still being 8.0. So how is that possible when my RE has a different number? She upped my dosage of levothyroxine to 50mcg but now i'm scared to take it cause i don't know whos result is right and whos is wrong. Or is it possible for your thyroid to flip flop like that?
Updated 4/21/14: Went to my primary doctor today and she feels that my RE's blood test numbers may be off and my RE thinks differently. My primary doctor has tested me three times and all three times my thyroid numbers came back high and whenever my RE tested it it was not. They have tested for Hashimotos and that came back negative. So this Clomid cycle was canceled since this is something that has to be resolved. My next step is to get a thyroid sonogram hoping that will give some insight in whats going on and to get another blood test done by a different lab to see what their results are. My DH are so upset by all this since it is adding more stress we didn't need.
Updated 5/19/14: So as you know, my medical doctor and my fertility doctor were having conflicting results on my thyroid panel where my medical doctors results came back as me having hypothyroidism and my fertility doctors results were showing my thyroid was fine.
So i went to my fertility doctor last week to get my TSH tested again. His result came back at 0.825 and with that result my medical doctor had me go to an outside lab that neither her or my fertility doctor uses to confirm whether i do or do not have a problem with my Thyroid. The outside lab result was taken three days after and it came back as 0.667.
So there was an error with the lab my doctor was using and she has reported that to them and is weening me off to a low dose of the synthroid she had put me on. So my advice to anyone is to get a second opinion if your blood results find anything wrong like a thyroid problem so you do not take medication you don't have to take. Luckily, this means i can continue with my fertility treatment which is one good thing that came out of this.

Wow, I have never had it flip flop that quickly. Could it be lab error? I would be careful about upping the dosage so quickly as you are showing a low number with your re however it is only 50mg which is a low dosage. It takes 4-6 weeks to properly stabilize a number on synthroid....I have no answer for you but I have never had that happen in 4 years.

Re: Ladies with Hypothyroidism: need advice
I'm thinking lab error. That's pretty much impossible. Plus when you start taking meds, they don't fully show in your blood work for 4-6 weeks. That's why usually, when you first start, you get blood work every 6-8 weeks to see if you need your dosage changed.
Don't worry about it too much though. Hypothyroid is fairly easy to control once they get the right dosage of meds. It just takes a little tweaking.

Sorry to crash but one of 3 things could be going on... 1) lab error 2) have them test you for hashimotos. I have it and my numbers have gone from 2 to 24 overnight. Literally. 3) Get a script for Synthroid instead of the generic you are taking. Many people with thyroid disease cannot take the generic because there are variations in batches.

Thanks Ladies! I have an appointment with my medical doctor on Monday to talk about this. Hopefully they can figure out whats going on.

Going to a different lab sounds like a good idea. Kind of like a tie breaker! Try not to stress out until you get the 3rd set of blood work results back.
