Hate School Pictures w/ update

I understand that school pictures are NOT modeling porfolios and that the photographer has to take hundreds of photos everyday. I get that.

However, I received DS's school photo from nursery school today. Terrible. He's NOT smiling and he looks like he is in the middle of talking. His eyes are half closed (like a blink) and his hands are cropped out of the picture ( I can barely see he is holding a book).

Anyway, I emailed the company. The picture was only $20 but I'd like a refund for something I feel is not of professional quality.

Anyone ever try to get such a refund? Or have a similar experience?

ETA Update:

Just heard back from the company. They are refunding my money and were very apologetic. Honestly, I wish there was just a retake but I'm happy their customer service is so attentive. Never hurts to ask.

Yes, Lifetouch has refunded my money for unprofessional photos.

I believe Lifetouch was one of the vendors the school used. I never was unhappy but if I was they were really good about refunds, wanting you 100% satisfied. My school also had retake days if you were unhappy. Hopefully there is a better pic or they should refund you.

Thanks for the responses. The company wasn't Lifetouch, it was In Focus.

Hopefully, they will have a similar policy. The school posted clearly there was NO retakes so I know that won't work.

I have yet to get a great school picture, beyond K for my oldest. They are always terrible. They just don't care. They figure they have your money and most aren't going to bother with requesting a refund. In this day and age, the pictures should be digital, take a few, we go online and select and call it a day! Our schools also do spring photos where you don't send money, and they send them home to view. Then you can decide if you want to purchase. Those come out nicer, and it's because they want you to buy them!

Our school does the same. All school pictures are the worst. It is just a joke now on how bad they come out. This year her teacher put a note on my DD's pictures that said sorry lol.

My daughters was sooooo bad it was actually GREAT. Lifetouch refunded me my money. Let me keep the picture bc it will be hysterical in 10 years!!!!
