This is why I hate my school
I've been really sick. I have a SEVERE sinus and throat infection. I was in terrible pain on Sunday and I still have lumps in my throat which are making it very hard to eat. I'm on Levaquin (a strong antibiotic) and tylenol for the fever. I am not exagerrating when I say that I have blown my nose over 200 times in the last three mucus-filled days. I have been miserable.
I just got a call from a fellow teacher. She said the administrator in my school told her to tell me that I "better have" a doctor's note when I return because I was off following a break....
what the serious h ell
I'm not an irresponsible shirker! Why assume I'm at home lounging????
I wish i could tell that bitcch to take the job and shove it.

That DOES totally suck! Im sorry you had to deal with that. However, this is NOT an isolated incident. When any teacher at my school uses a sick day after a break it must be documented. I do work in the city although my husband and friends who work on L.I. have to abide by the same rule. It is looked down upon and unwritten rule that teachers cannot take a day off before or after a holiday. Im not saying you didnt have a good reason to call in but I totally understand why schools are strict with this policy considering our vacation breaks are so frequent. Since you are actually sick and Im sure went to the doctor recently since your symptoms were so severe, I bet you wont have a problem at all.

Oh and just to play devils advocate maybe your AP was giving you a heads up because she didnt want you 2 be caught off guard when you return to work

Don't take it personally, I am pretty sure you would have gotten that reaction at almost every school in this area.

I totally knew I would need a note and I made sure I got one but to have a co-worker relate a message that I "better have" the note is really unprofessional.
My co-worker said she was kind of angry -- like she thought maybe i wasn't sick and I was out shopping or something. This woman is an awful person and a worse administrator.

Don't cry about it - I am sure it wasn't a personal attack against you!
I can share - I had a miscarriage last November. My D&C was scheduled the same day as a Superintendent's Conference Day. The first thing the office asked for when I came back was a note  .
I really think it's just a sore spot with districts.

I think they have to remember that we have real lives outside of the school and that not everyone is trying to shirk responsibility or "get over" in some way.
If i wasn't so unhappy at the school , maybe this would have just rolled off of me...

I do agree that passing messages through your co-workers is completely unprofessional and immature..I'm sorry that's happening to you...and I hope you feel better soon! I've been there!

My husband is a teacher and we got married on a friday right before a break and he had to work on our wedding day!!

lol, that's funny
Update:
I went to work today and said administrator gave me a not-so-nice look. I followed her into her office to explain that I had the note and she brushed me off, telling me to leave it on the secretary's desk as she quickly walked away. Don't ask me if I'm feeling better or anything!!! At the end of the day she didn't say goodnight and was obviously ignoring me while talking to everyone else.
