I HATE WILLIAM FLOYD SCHOOL DISTRICT* i called Longwood*update on pg 2*

dd has a hard time with her lockers now for 3 year and they help umm not. last year stuff was stollen from did they do anything NOPE not for 3 months this year her pocket book was stolen 2 times from her gym locker again because they refuse to help her NO. also this year a kid was not only drawing all over but hitting her and untill they actuall saw it the did something

now today her pocket book was YET again stolen with her cell , her house keys and her glasses(thank god NO MONEY) and it was a brand new pocketbook i flew up to the school and not only told them I WANT the money i had to foot out for a phone(thank god i had the insurance on it) and the money to get her a temp phone till her new on comes in. i also told the pricpal that i want every girl called down from her gym glas and told unless her pocket book shows up they will suffer iss.

I WANT HER OUT OF THIS SCHOOL AND IN LONGWOOD

ok vent over

Hopfully they will help me in getting her back to a school that will take care of her.

So sorry this is happening!! Is someone bullying her or are they just randomly stealing from her?

Is she making sure her locker is LOCKED?

I am so sorry. It seems like she is being bullied. I would fight to get her pulled and transferred. or at least see if you can homeschool her until you get her transferred. I would also threaten to report it to the news channels!

she is always getting bullied what they do ummmmmm nothing

as for locking her lock that is the main problem she has for 3 years having problems opening it. i asked to have her use a locker with a key they said NO. they just DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS. yet all i hear from all her teacher they wish they had more student like her because of how well behaved she is. yet she get not help in return from the school

i'm so sorry to hear everything she is going through!

is she leaving her locker unlocked because she is having trouble opening it when she does lock it?

I'd be LIVID if I were you. Make yourself heard and go to that school EVERYDAY if need be. Go over the principal's head if you have to and pay a visit to your district's superintendant.

Even if you provided the new lock? Is the issue that they would want to be able to have access if they needed to do a locker search? If so, would they allow it if they had a copy of the key?

Janet - she's a special education student, correct? Does she have an IEP? You could get it put in her IEP that she needs a different lock - I've seen it done.

that would not be a problem they do come with 2 keys... she showed me her regular locker today (she was able to open it because she was not under stress to open it and it was 100% empty... she has not used it all year

I was awful at openning locks too. I'd was the worst at it when I was in a hurry or before a class with a teacher that made me nervous. I can imagine it is even harder for her if she has special needs. I hope you can work something out! Keep trying!

Maybe in the meantime--get a lock & practice with her at home. Maybe after she gets it a few times, time her, so she can get used to doing it under pressure? The #s will be differnt, but maybe it won't make her so nervous.

I'm not a teacher, & I don't know her learning situation, but it's just a thought.

I would be livid too Janet, If i was you i would call 7 on your side, Do you want to see how fast they will give her a locker with a key and put a end of the bullying and stealing. I'm sorry Kryssy has to deal with this BS.

I'm so not looking forward to middle and high school with my son since he also is a special education student and I dread how it's going to go. I hope you get a resolution at your meeting. Push for that shadow, it's unfair that she has to deal with not being able to open the locker and they are doing nothing to accomodate her

Janet, as a special ed. teacher, you CAN FIGHT for these things at the CSE meeting. the accommodations you are asking for are so minimal, i don't see how they couldn't accommodate them. i would also make sure you have a parent advocate (the district shoudl provide one---they are fellow parents with a child in special ed. and they help you during the CSE and ask questions you may not have thought of).

i don't know anything about your daughter, but from what I can see,
she needs a different lock for her locker AND she needs more time in between classes. no child should have to carry 20 kbs. of books around with them all day. it's not fair. also, not suer if you would find this too restrictive, but perhaps a classroom aide to help her navigate the hallways and/or her locker.

its a total PITA but you've got to be a squeeky wheel when it comes to adding modifications to her IEP.
Do you belong to SEPTA? Do you know who the advocate is? You've got to get together with other parents of Special Ed kids & talk to them about how they got results or who they dealt with in the school.
When my DS was that age I was so in their faces, the teachers knew it was easier to do what I said than deal with me flipping. There are state advocates in Albany, the board of education/special ed.
Start searching online for phone numbers, call Albany & tell them what nonsense you are going through.
Everything contact you have with the school has to be written, sent certified & CC'd to the superintendent & NYS board of education.
I know it takes a ton of time & effort but doing things this way lets the district know you'll blow whistles.
I've heard of rare occaisionswhen special ed kids can be enrolled in a different district for better services, have you looked into this with Longwood?

My DD has many issues from time to time. I have made good friends with the school social worker, school psychologist, and her guidence couselor. All have helped her with her locker and have handled any issues that she has had...As a Special Education Student they recognize that she needs help in some areas. Ive been fortunate that she has befriended a couple of students that are nice to her and help her from time to time...

I lawyered up when we first moved to this district and my DH is a special ed teacher in a middle school so I know what they can do for her...

I would have something added to her IEP and I would seek out an allie within the school..such as the school social worker.
