first trimester screening
i just scheduled my appointment for the first trimester screening.. what does that entail?

first trimester screening
Assuming this is the NT scan. It is a sonogram where they test for Downs and other chromosomal disorders. They measure the neckfold and test your blood with a fingerprick.

Were you able to get a good appointment time???
They'll do an external u/s (nice warm gel) and take various measuremens of the neckfold of the baby. They also measured some other stuff; not quite sure what. But checked to make sure i was the proper amount of weeks etc. You also have to get a finger prick blood test. The appointment can be pretty quick depending on if the baby is in the right position. Mine was upside down on it's head so I had to move around; the tech was pushing on my belly hard. I had to go to the bathroom to empty my bladder. Took about 30-35 minutes in total. The staff at LIJ is so nice!!

i did.. i'm actually going on the same night as my 12 week appointment with dr. duncan. i have the scan at 6:30 and then i'll head over to see the doctor at 7:45.

Just be careful; if they're backed up and take a while getting to you; then the time for the measurements you might be late of your 2nd appointment. Although I've had OB appointments in the evening and gotten there late and the still saw me!

i'm gonna try to get to the scan a little early.. of course i didn't factor in the wait time.. hopefully it works out

is the place where they do the scan and our doctor's office relatively close?

Yup, you can walk or drive right over! I hate to pay to park so you can get lucky and find street parking outside KATZ its all residential.
Coming down lakeville road if the OB office is the first right after marcus ave, katz is the second right.
