Wilson School / Mill Neck Manor
At my DS's CPSE meeting last month, we were granted approval for a FT center based program. We are trying to find placement now for Sept and it is difficult since some places are already full. I have a tour set up tomorrow for Mill Neck Manor and a screening on Weds at Barbara Wilson school. Any info, pos/neg experiences about these places that you can share?
My DS is turning 3 this month and diagnosed with ASD about 6 months ago. Looking for placement in a 10:1:2 or 12:1:2 self contained class and he will get speech 2x/week / No OT or PT. Most places don't even call me back. Brookville center said they are full and not giving tours/screenings. Such an overwhelming process!!

Thanks for the response. We really liked Barbara Wilson as well. Mill Neck Manor was also great, but they weren't sure of openings and is further away for us. I am going to call BCW tomorrow and accept the position they offered DS in the 10:1:2 class.
We ended up also screening at Just Kids Lindenhurst and were offered a position in their 12:1:2 (half day integrated) but liked BCW better.

We also chose Barbara C. Wilson and felt very fortunate to get a spot there. My son has been a student there only a short time and I already notice an improvement!

Thanks Maggie. We can't wait for Sept to get here!!
As far as water for drinking, do you have to send in a bottle every day or they can provide water?
We are so used to day care where every bit of food and drink was included.

Yes it's definitely different than daycare! They don't have microwaves, but they do have a refrigerator in the classroom. The water is not filtered, so I send a big bottle of water and juice that they use for the week. They will let you know when you need to bring more.
