Cloth Diapers
Hi All,
What are everyone's feelings on cloth diapers?
I have read a lot of interesting, positive things about them. I would imagine they are not something you can use ALL the time...
Thoughts?

Re: Cloth Diapers
Personally, it's not something that's right for us and we'll be using disposable diapers. The clean-up is not worth it to us for the long-run savings.

They have a new style of cloth diaper - it has a disposable insert that means less mess to clean-up. I have a friend who registered for them, but I'm not sure if she used them... I'll ask her what her thoughts have been!

Re: Cloth Diapers
I've used them for about 18 months.
Generally, I'm happy with them, but sometimes I take a break from the laundry. I'm currently in a month long break from them, just because I've had too much going on to keep up with them.
Also, I do not ever use them overnight. Without fail, the sheets will be wet in the morning.
I use bum genius AIO, have about 16, and find it is enough for a load of laundry every 2nd or 3rd day.

How many do you go through a day typically?

Yeah, my friend just got back to me, she said she used them a few times but found that for poop, it was NOT good, so they just switched to using pampers full-time.

typically, 1 @ wakeup, 3-4 used at daycare (9hr day), 1-2 in the evening (home @ 4, bedtime at 8), and then a disposable at night.
So I'd say, 5 on the low end, 7 on the high end.

They're amazing for cleaning... My SIL bought us a bunch and they make awesome dish cloths.

Cloth diapers were not right for us. I would have never been able to keep up with EBF and cleaning diapers. I had a hard time keeping up with the laundry early on due to DD reflux.

Re: Cloth Diapers
They are not for me. Between the round the clock breastfeeding that I've been doing and caring for the baby and trying to take care of myself, I couldn't imagine keeping up with that. But I applaud anyone who does.

Re: Cloth Diapers
Not for me. I give anyone who has consistently used them for a period of time lots of credit. I have enough laundry already and I just couldn't imagine trying to stay on top of that mess too.

We seriously considered it since our neighbor used them and loved them. Now that I have a child, I could not imagine using them - especially in the beginning. Recovery was harder than I had anticipated and breastfeeding was very time consuming and challenging. My DS already creates enough wash since he spits up all the time!

Re: Cloth Diapers
Cloth diaper user here!!! I've been using cloth since dd was 4 months. She's now 22 months. It's a lot to get used to, but I can't see it any other way at this point. I have special (expensive) heavy duty nighttime diapers, but I do use regular dipes at night sometimes. During the day it's cloth all the time.
I like pockets. I have all one size pockets. I have snaps and Velcro. Velcro is sooooo easy and I plan on getting more. Cleaning them just becomes part of the routine. Depending on how much dd drinks at the time I usually change her about every 2 hours. So I use about 6 a day plus a nighttime one. I plan on cd'ing #2 as well!
Another lif user helped me get started and I can never thank her enough bc without her I wouldn't have done it! So if you have any specific questions I'll be glad to help!

My 6 week old DD is EBF and poops 10 times a day. I couldn't imagine trying to keep up with cleaning that many diapers
Don't worry - it'll slow down. At around 9-10 weeks, DS started going every other day.
