we are. I don't want to use disposables, so we are giving it a go. I hope it works out as well as I *think* it should.

anyone else?

I will.... as burp cloths! Chat Icon I'd love to think I can go that route but having my mom who had no choice in using cloth, I just do not think I could. But I am a bit envious at those who do. I know the process has come a long way since my mom rinsing poopy diapers in the toilet but I just don't know. Chat Icon

My grandma used to boil them Chat Icon

But I'm pretty sure that is not how they do it nowadays.

I was seriously considering this but our daycare will not take children with cloth diapers!

The only cloth diapers I will be using are for burp cloths.

it's actually pretty simple. you do a rinse when you change (if it is anything other than urine) then you wash them, hot, with a double rinse.

my MIL is watching Newton at home, so we don't have the day care issue. and even better, she used "pañales" on her kids so she is totally up for it and game.

I am sure we'll have to supplement with disposables at certain times, but I am so glad to be giving this a try!

I would *like* to, but I don't see it happening while I am home watching baby, and two big dogs running around....and trying to do my work from home....Maybe if I wasn't working at the same time.....it does seem like such a waste to change so many disposables! Chat Icon

honestly, if you have them pre-folded and ready to go, it's not that much different than changing a regular diaper.

the main issue is with poop, and when that happens, you just dump it into the toilet and rinse it out...maybe an extra minute as compared to disposables....at least that is what I keep telling myself. Chat Icon

ETA: not sure if you guys watch dirty jobs, but there is a company in CA that collects and washes cloth diapers (both infant AND adult) I thought it was pretty cool.

Maybe I'll be hybrid and do both Chat Icon

If for some reason one of the dogs tries to get in the poop before I get rid of it, I may change my mind Chat Icon One of my dogs is into poop....all kinds Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My DH is not too keen on all the disposables too...seems like such a waste!!!!

I'm starting out w/ G Diapers but may switch to cloth if it gets too pricey. I really don't want to use regular disposable...the g diapers are really eco friendly.

We aren't, but a friend of ours is getting set up with a service to deliver new ones and take care of the used ones.

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?

We plan on using cloth, my mom used on both me and my sister, more so me b/c I had very sensative skin, and disposable diapers gave me severe rashes.

We'll probably supplement w/ disposables for when we're traveling etc. There's a company in my area that cleans and provides cloth diaper service, I did the math and it works out to be the same as buying disposables all the time.

ETA: Cloth also produces less waste...makes it a green choiceChat Icon

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?

We'll be using cloth - and laundering them ourselves. Right now I'm trying to figure out which kinds I want to stock up on. I think having a variety on hand at the beginning is probably a good idea. The endless choices are a little daunting, though. But then again, so is everything about preparing for the little one! Chat Icon

Back in 'the day' (when everyone used cloth diapers) this was a service that most people relied on (my MIL was just telling us about it a few weeks ago).

My cousin has been using cloth diapers (as well as BF) for over a year now. I've never heard her complain about it- it was something important to them, so they do it. We're not even considering doing it, but when i do think about the idea, my real concern/curiosity is about what you do with the real blowouts? Chat Icon I mean, not just the little turds that drop into the bowl... but the all-out explosions? I picture rinsing that in the sink, and thinking of all that poop in my sink, going down the drain.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

The extent i will use them will probably be just as burp cloths.
I tried it with my DD 8 years ago and it was a disaster. As of right now i'm not up for doing the bloth diapering again, but it may change once this baby gets here. The cloth diaper is so much nicer in the summer too.

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?

We use cloth!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

We use Indian pre-folds and thirsties covers!!!

SO Easy..... DD is EBF so no need to rinse. Dirty dipaers go into a pail ( we use a whammies pail liner). Every three days I empty the pail into teh washer and we runa a sanitieze cycle (super hot water) and extra rinse. We use 1 scoop of oxy clean and our regular free and clear detergent.

If anyone has any questions on getting started or where to buy stuff FM me!!!

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?

I actually just started using the Bum Genius cloth diapers with dd when she's home- kind of a practice run before ds is born. I'm actually pretty surprised at how easy they are. I dump whatever I need to, then they go into the wash.

We d't, but my mom did with my sister because she was allergic to regular diapers. She had a delivery service so the clean up wasn't a big deal. Good luck with that! Chat Icon Chat Icon
