For those of you who moved out of ny.
Another post has me thinking. If you moved out of New York, do you find the people where you live to be more friendly? If so, where do you live?

For those of you who moved out of ny.
I have lived in probably 7 different states over my lifetime. There are friendly people and rude people everywhere.

Re: For those of you who moved out of ny.
I'm not from NY. I grew up in Maryland. You say Hi to everyone in MD, you just do. Not that there aren't fake, mean people, but they will say Hi.Growing up our neighbors had TGIF parties outside every week, here we barely speak to our neighbors. I have some great friends on Long Island, but truthfully, most of them are not originally from LI either.

Re: For those of you who moved out of ny.
We have very good friends who live in a small town in PA. People, as a whole, are noticeably nicer there than here. Just one example though I suppose.

I agree with this. I grew up and still live on LI. Went jogging this morning on my neighborhood trail and every person I passed either smiled waived or said hello. We speak to all our neighbors.

For those of you who moved out of ny.
I'm in FL 8 yrs now, and yes, without a doubt people are 100x friendlier. There's are countless NY's here and in my neighborhood, and still everyone is very friendly. The workers in the stores are ridiculously friendly too.

I think there is still a section of LI that is noticeably more courteous than the rest, basically anywhere east and north of exit 69 on the LIE. South of the LIE there are a few pockets but once you go over the canal in the season it's the worst.

Re: For those of you who moved out of ny.
I'm originally from the Hudson Valley.
It's definitely different here.
But with that said, I just think people are more to themselves and once you get to know them, they are nice.
Growing up where I did, people were nice to your face, but talked about you as soon as you walked away.
Like another poster said, people are like this everywhere though.....

For those of you who moved out of ny.
I am from SI and commuted to the city. We have been out of NY for 8 yrs. I go back a few times a year. The test to me is bringing the kids into the city on mass transit. Ok...no one wants to help you get your stroller down 3 flights of stairs. Whatever. But to shoot me dirty looks because stroller is on subway is sick. I cannot even get into the mess I go through to navigate stroller in mob to get on and off ferry. I barely have held open doors down here. I become friends with grocery store cashiers down here...up there, you don't even get a hello.
I think this site showcases a lot of inconvienced, aggravated people. People in other states do not commute 1.5 hrs to work. My husbands commute is now 4 mins. That makes a huge difference. My parents still live up there. They are unfriendly. They really don't talk to neighbors. Some how they are always in different arguments with other people in lines.
When I cross that bridge from NJ to sI...my kids pick up on it instantly. I am constantly honked at. No one honks here. Ever.

Re: For those of you who moved out of ny.
I live in Canada now, just outside of Toronto. People here are as friendly as they are on LI (about 50/50). However, when I go shopping in the Buffalo area, people are friendly as a rule. Cashiers are very talkative, people hold doors and say thank you, etc.
