fasting 8 hour workup

hi. I'm going for a fasting 8 hour workup this week as preliminary testing before IVF cycle. Is this just bloodwork or do you get a sonogram too? thanks

It might depend on the practice. When I had the fasting workup done, it was just bloodwork.

Thanks. I don't even remember why it was ordered. There was too much information at our initial consult- think I was overwhelmed by that plus no insurance coverage

I never heard of fasting IF blood work. Maybe they are throwing in a Lipid panel?

Hi, I had to fast for about 8 hours as well as part of initial testing. For me, they did a complete CBC. Also, they sometimes want to check your sugar levels through an A1C test. They want sugar levels to be normal and good before conceiving. If those levels are not good, they sometimes give u metformin to control it. Also, maybe they are checking thyroid function. Usually, it depends on the practice and where you are in ur cycle when they draw blood and do a sonogram on the same day. There were times where some facilities only drew blood on that day. Yet, there were other places I had gone to where they did blood and sono on the first day. Good luck with everything.
