Endoscopy and colonoscopy
I have to have both on separate appointments over the next few weeks. I will be sedated (which scares me just as much as the procedure). Can anyone tell me how their experience was with either procedure? I am really nervous but I need to have them done to check for IBD.

Re: Endoscopy and colonoscopy
Hi! I have IBS and also colitis and I've had a number of colonoscopies and endoscopies. The worst part of the colonoscopy is the prep the night before. Just be prepared to be in the bathroom a few hours (bring a book/tablet with you :)) The procedures themselves are nothing. You don't even know when you are getting sedated and then you wake up. There is no prep for the endoscopy besides refraining from eating the night before. After the colonoscopy you will have a lot of gas from all the air pumped into you. It will be alright! FM me if you would like more information.

Endoscopy and colonoscopy
I agree with a lot of what the pp said. The prep is the worst part although after an hour or two you just get used to it imo. The other bad part was not being able to eat or drink. I regret not waking up at the last time i was allowed to drink and chugging a gallon of water. I was dying in the morning beforehand and the anesthesiologist had a terrible time getting an iv in me bc I was dehydrated. The actually procedure was fine. We went straight to the diner afterward so I could eat and then I went home to put heating pads on both hands where I'd been stuck so many times.

I have Crohn's and have also had these procedures. ITA with the above posts! Prep sucks, especially the drinking part but it will be fine. They give you the best drugs ever. Yu feel amazing for 2 seconds then you pass out and have the best sleep ever lol. I hate when they wake me up! You will be drowsy for a few minutes, then fine. And yes, I always eat immediately after because you are so empty. The endoscopy was fine but I had a bit of a sore throat after. Good luck!

Re: Endoscopy and colonoscopy
The prep is the worst part. Ask if you can get the miralax & Gatorade prep. The magnesium citrate is so nasty to drink!

Endoscopy and colonoscopy
I had a colonoscopy a few years ago. They gave me pills to take instead of the drink, to prep the day before. Ask if that's available to you. Made it THAT much easier, because I heard the drink is pretty gross. As far as the procedure, it is really nothing. They put you to sleep and you wake up before you know it.

Re: Endoscopy and colonoscopy
It was simple. I went in.. they set me up and took me to the room (took 10 min at most).. put me out (I have had a lot of surgeries so that part doesnt scare me). Woke up.. felt better within 5-10 minutes and went out to lunch!
ETA: that was the endoscopy. Never had the colonoscopy.

Re: Endoscopy and colonoscopy
I just had a colonoscopy 3 weeks ago. They gave me moviprep for the drink. I had one dose at 6pm and one a 3am. My procedure was at 9am. For a couple of days prior I ate a lighter soft food diet so that it would be easier to get it all out. I have been having stomach problems so I have been taking mirilax everyday anyway. The only thing that I suggest is to make the drink and refrigerate so that it is very cold. It tastes a little better that way. But all and all it wasn't bad. I had no cramping just went to the bathroom a lot. I got way more sleep that night than I thought I would. I have to do a magnesium citrate cleanse next week i hope it goes as smoothly as moviprep did. I was nervous about being put under but it happened so fast next think I knew they were waking me up. i was feeling pretty good at that point.

Endoscopy and colonoscopy
I had a colonoscopy last week and for anyone that is scared dont be! The prep was the worst part. I drank the miralx mixed with gatorade and then was in the bathroom all night. Not painful belly ache just non stop. The procedue was over before I knew it even started and I slept a lot during the day (bc I was up all night, not because I didnt feel well). So anyone nervous dont be, its really not that bad!

Endoscopy and colonoscopy
The procedure is easy. The drink before is a pain and not being able to eat etc., but this is better than in England where, from what I was told, have colonoscopies without anesthesia
