colonoscopy/endoscopy

Not happy to have to post this question but here goes. My dr wants to do both and says they can do them at the same time but he prefers not to. At the time, I went with his recommendation but now I'm thinking I'm crazy to go through this twice! Did you have both and were there any problems with gas/pain afterwards? Also, is the prep for an endoscopy similar to the prep for the colonoscopy?

Re: colonoscopy/endoscopy

I have had an endoscopy, never had a colonoscopy, but I used to work in an endoscopy center.

The colonoscopy requires you to prep, but the endoscopy doesn't. All you have to do for the endoscopy is not eat or drink anything form the night before.

The endo is quick, the colonoscopy takes longer. You will have gas following a colonoscopy because air gets in, but I have not seen anyone really complain of terrible gas pains. Once you start passing the gas, you will feel better right away.

IMO, I would do them both at the same time to get it over with.

I don't understand why he wouldn't want to do both at the same time. The only reason I would think of would be related to the sedation. The most important thing is finding out who is going to be giving it, is it going to be him or is there an anesthesiologist giving it. I would refuse to do any procedure in an office setting unless it was an anesthesiologist giving the sedation.

Re: colonoscopy/endoscopy

I had them both together and then done separately another time.

I liked doing it together because I got it over with.

Very little discomfort both times.

The prep is a little different but the whole idea is the same..clean yourself out.

I had them done together. The doctor called it "the double."Chat Icon

I had absolutely no problems afterwards. We stopped at the diner for breakfast on the way home because I was starving!!!

Re: colonoscopy/endoscopy

I am going for a colonoscopy today and next week I have the endoscopy. My Dr. did not schedule them together.
