Why BCP?
I will be starting my first IVF in about a week and a half. I was told that I would be on birth control for about 3 weeks. When I went to my OBGYN today for my annual pap he had asked me what the plan was and when I mentioned the BCP he said "oh their making you take that? Usually they only do that for someone who needs to regulate their periods, but yours is always normal" So he kind of threw me off. Then of course he added that each RE has their own practice that they use. I mean I know that this is not his specialty and clearly my RE is the expert in this area but it made me wonder is it wrong that their giving me BCP since I do already have regular cycles??

This is why obs should leave infertility issues to REs. BCPs are used in many IVF protocols to suppress the patient so that she does not end up with a lead follicle while stimming. It's a means of trying to keep follicle growth uniform.
Your RE knows what s/he is doing. Best of luck as you begin the process!

Totally agree. At this point you are under the care of your RE so that is the only person you should listen to.

I'm totally regular and my RE had me on BCPs. As the others have said, it's to keep your ovaries quiet and make sure they can stim you in a really controlled way and get as many mature follies as possible.

This. The purpose of BCP for IF isn't the same as the use of BCP for GYN reasons.
