Is there such a product?
I have thick, fine and pin straight hair - when I get layers I always want that nice flippy look but I can never achieve that. Do I need a new cut? Or is there a product that would give texture to the layers? Or us there a better blowing technique I should try.

Well, I have straight straaaaaaight hair too.
I like ROOT PUMP By Big, Sexy Hair.
I also tell my hair stylist to please add in volume - not sure if he does this with layers or what the helll he does but it gives me more body.
I also blow dry my hair underneath first by flipping my head over, then drying the top, then flipping back over and combing it all forward and then styling -- it gives it volume first, style second.
We have straight hair so we can get away with that order :) :)

Two things that add texture for me are:

The Rusk is my holy grail. I have used it for like 20 years now. I use it every time I shampoo , on damp hair, can't live without it. It adds a nice texture without being overly sticky or stiff.
The Living Proof is for use once your hair is dry. To give a piecey texture.
Also very good.

I use hot rollers. I got mine at target for under $30. It's conair (purple and black). Just roll them up without any product and let them in for as long as you can..or at least until they cool off. Then blowdry the rollers with the cool air button. let them out and gently comb your hair. Flip your hair over and just use hairspray. Make sure it's a fine mist.

You're my hair icon (hair-con?) - I was actually thinking maybe hot rollers was the way to go. I definitely need to practice.

I'm for the new cut camp!
I recently went pretty short this year and am so happy I made the leap.
I've always had long, thick, straight hair too and I feel like it just looked so blah after awhile.
The only con really is I feel you need to get a cut more frequently to keep the shape.
I get at least 2 compliments a day now that people want my hair style.

I have the same type of hair (thick, fine and straight) and I don't ever get a flippy curl to stay unless I use heat styling with a pre styling cream and finish with lots of hairspray. I've tried blow drying with rounded brushes but I can't manage it myself. It does stay longer when my stylist does it.
I have medium length hair and I just finish the ends under with a blow dryer. And then throw in a ponytail.
