This decision would definitely not be for any advantage per say. I just feellike he ddoesn't know and isn't yet retaining what he should know at this point. I feel like he is immature for his age as well.

Kissy331- everything you said about your son is how I feel about mine.

This is definitely a Red flag to me. Regardless of being immature, he should be able to retain information. Do you feel like there could be something else other than immaturity? Has he ever received related services or Eduational services?

Yes but keep in mind he hasn't even turned 4 yet, so he is still 3. There is a huge difference in retention from 3 almost 4 to 4 almost 5.

Op you still have time to see how your son matures. But please keep in my mind boys can be more immature and hyper in general.

Re: holding back kindergarten for another year

There is a huge difference between 3 and 4. So much growth happens within that year. I teach dance and mix my 3&4s. It is easy to tell who is 3 and who is 4. It's clear as day. My 3 year old imitate, my 4 year olds retain. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but this holds true 95% of the time.
My DS started kindergarten at 4. He has a late October birthday. He definitely had some maturity issues and even some issues with waiting his turn, putting his hand up before speaking, etc... But I knew putting him in school was best. I truly believed another year in preK would have been a detriment. He's in third grade now and doing beautifully both academically and socially. I have no regrets.
