Has anyone ever contacted their insurance to see if any additional services are available due to an Austism diagnosis? Someone suggested this to me recently. What was the outcome, if you don't mind sharing.
I don't know exactly what I am looking for service wise. But DS goes to school and I was hoping to get some additional family services. At school he is an angel and at home he is a terror. DS is 3.

Re: Private Insurance
Different diagnosis but I initially went the insurance route to have DS seen by a private psychologist.
The co-pays were what got us if we continued to see him long-term, so that is something to be mindful of too, especially if it becomes a weekly thing....
If you have a FSA it may not be as bad....
Does Cohen's offer anything? I know they did tell me though the adhd group/training is private pay.....thankfully we are not at that point yet...

My son has received speech, OT and PT through insurance. Insurance companies have been mandated to provide services to those with a ASD diagnosis if it's a service they pay for to someone without a diagnosis of ASD. In the past many things were not covered since it's not a "curable" condition. That has since changed (at least in NY).
You can apply to OPWDD for Family Support Services and they provide parent training from what I'm told, along with many other services (Respite, recreation, etc.).

You really need to contact your health insurance to see exactly what they cover for autism and if payment occurs before or after you hit the deductible. I know people that use their insurance for ABA services and for speech, OT. Our insurance allows us to access ABA, Speech, OT, and psychiatric services. We only use the psychiatric services weekly and have not had to pay anything.
