Question re: nursing bra
I read this (below) on Lucie's list, but I don't know when i would go to get fitted for a nursing bra -- obviously not out of the hospital... maybe my question is when do you start lactating?
“Do I really need a nursing bra?” Um, yes. Most definitely. And you know your boobs are going to get MUCH bigger after you start lactating, right? I mean… real big. PORN STAR big. Don’t worry, they will settle down a bit after your milk production levels out, usually around 6 weeks or so.
It’s best to be fitted for a nursing bra by a professional in a store, but once you know your size, here are some faves you can scoop up online.

Question re: nursing bra
Well it will take a few days for you milk to come in and then a few weeks for your supply to level out. For those first few weeks it's helpful to just wear nursing tanks and wireless sleep bras. Not to mention they're comfier for those weeks when you're nursing non stop. After things settle down in a few weeks I would go try on more structured nursing bras. I wore the sleep ones and tanks out all the time in the beginning though. I never got fitted and just got all my nursing bras and tanks at target but I'm not very big so it probably makes life easier.

Question re: nursing bra
Your milk will come in within a few days of delivery; I think I just bought a nursing bra in the size I was wearing when I went shopping (a week before delivery but didn't realize that). It didn't fit the best but it wasn't that expensive and once I was around to getting out I went to Destination Maternity and probably got measured and bought some more.

Question re: nursing bra
I honestly found them to be a waste of money. I'm wearing my reg bras and just whipping them out when I need to (but I'm not doing it in public, which might make a nursing bra handier)

I did that towards the end of my nursing. I wasn't getting the support from the bras i needed (I was smaller) didn't want to go buy more so just started wearing my regular bras and would just lift a boob out to nurse.

Question re: nursing bra
You know your body best. If you're not fussy, then don't worry about going in for a fitting. Just do what feels right. I love ordering online. I got 2 kinds and loved them both for different reasons. Sidenote: I pumped, not BF.
What if someone decided not to nurse? Image Attachment(s):

Re: Question re: nursing bra
Within a few days after giving birth my milk came in, and once it did, it felt like my boobs exploded. They definately got bigger than they were before birth and I needed to go up a size. I bought one nursing bra while pregnant in a bigger size and that ended up working out somewhat. It's super convenient especially when home all day feeding him. The regular bras are a pain in the butt at least in my case to take on and off (I have a larger sized chest). If anything, get one, and then I'd wait to get more.

Re: Question re: nursing bra
I had my DD at 32 weeks and was completely unprepared. I leaked all over the hospital gown - it was so gross. This time I am definitely going in with nursing pads. I should have read more on LIF last time around!

Question re: nursing bra
Good post. I was wondering this as well. I am living in sports bras now. I can't deal with underwire anymore. I found super comfy sports bras on Groupon.
So BTDT moms I see people are saying milk doesn't come in for a few days. So is the baby just getting colostrum for those first few days? I don't really wanna use formula in the beginning but wondering if most people do because of the milk not coming in yet. Please explain! Thanks!

Yup, it's the colostrum (I think that's the name for it). For the first day (he was born in the morning), DS barely ate anything, just slept the whole day, then started to little by little. By the time we came home, he was eating more often - we ended up supplementing with formula overnight once a night for first few weeks until I healed from c-section, but didn't need to, it was more of a personal choice. Now he's BF'ing only and the milk I think now has almost "learned" how much he needs and produces that amount.

Question re: nursing bra
Those 2 bras are from Destination Maternity. The top one was softer, and you could just whip out the boob, slip the pads in, easy on off. The second one was more structured for wearing under nicer clothes if I went out, etc. since it un clips from the straps, it is great for both bf and pumping. I felt that my boobs got bigger after pumping for a week, but I never got engorged or felt like I was busting out. As for milk coming in, it was colostrum for the first 3 days and I pumped every 2 hours or so. On day 4, milk started coming in!

Yes, just the colostrum at first. It's very high in nutrients and their bellies are teeny tiny. It's all they need until your milk comes in. Check out a book like Breastfeeding Made Simple if you're nervous. It will help to start out informed!

I was anxious about it also - about not knowing what to do, how to do it, etc. But, you'll figure it out very soon! I also used Kellymom.com A LOT - so much helpful info on there that I constantly looked at.

Question re: nursing bra
I just have two cheap bras from target I rotate through, although sometimes I wear my regular bras also-I was able to just get the size I was at like 7 months preggo.
My main suggestion would be nursing pads-dd is over 3 months and I still leak a ton-like ounces a day.
My milk came in like 4 days pp, and all of a sudden my boobs were huge and hard. Before that the babies are getting all that they need-feeding formula would make the process more difficult, bc your body won't be cued the way it needs to be. Just know they baby will be on your boobs all the time for awhile, and that it's totally normal
