Process of redoing bathroom

I am so lost on getting this started. I went to a few tile places and that is it so far. Do you need to get estimates first from contractors and have the hired one direct you how much tile you need? Does he get it or do you? Also, do we buy the tub and shower and have it here to be installed.

i think it depends on who you are looking to do the work
there are companies that do it all - get you the tiles, fixtures etc and install or you can hire a contractor and purchase things from wherever you want

if you go through a contractor, i would have them come in and look at your space to determine exactly how much you need. they should also be able to direct you on places to go purchase the items at a reasonable price. I would not purchase anything before speaking with your contractor.

when we did our kitchen the contractor came wiht us to the cabinet place and helped us order - he also picked it up. but when we did the counter tops we went to the place on our own and they delivered it for us.

I wild start with the contractor your going to use. Most of them get good discounts at the tile companies. Our contractor get a good discount a Roma. The context it should give you exact measurements and then you take that to the tile store and pick out what you like.

We used a handy man. He gave us an estimate for labor and we bought the bulk of the stuff. Certain things he purchased and we reimbursed.

He gave us the sq footage of tile we needed for the floor and the walls. We bought it on our own.

We also picked out the tub, toilet and sink. My DH picked them up but he said he would if we couldn't fit it in our van.
