Getting additional services privately??
My dd has a significant small motor delay. We have a diagnosis as hypotonia. She gets ot 2x a week. Does anyone know if insurance companies pay towards additional ot services or if we can go see a private ot a pay out of pocket? Do we need a script to get ot services if we aren't using insurance to pay.

Re: Getting additional services privately??
You can go through insurance or pay out of pocket. With either you will need to provide a Rx. Not all providers take insurance so you have to call your ins co and ask for a list of pediatric OTs. You will also probably have to pay a copay. OT services out of pocket would probably be around $60 for a 30 minute session. There are tons of thing you can easily do at home to address fine motor delays. Has your OT given you activities or game/toy suggestions?

We use insurance to get OT privately, and in the past have also used it for speech.

Re: Getting additional services privately??
I'd call up your insurance company to see what they cover. I know through EI they were billing my insurance for speech services to re-coup some of the costs, and when I got my explanation of benefits from the insurance company, they did cover some of the session cost (they were billed as Out of Network). I think they charged $70 a session and my insurance paid $20 or $25.
