Clonidine and Autism - What would u do

So I went to a Neurologist today to document that my son has autism.

I will be transitioning to CSE I am told it is best to get it done so the school will understand his difficulties (Not in LI BTW)

My son was all over the place, removed his shoes, then his shirt in the waiting room, had to put back everything then at the docs office was flipping from chair to chair as she was talking to us

She suggested clonidine 0.5 mg daily , and it has freaked me out
Any ones kid on it?
He is only 4 , What would u do ?

I would be leary of a doctor who upon first sight recommends ADHD meds to a 4 year old. What was the doctor's impression. Was her diagnosis autism? Did she think there was something else going on? Did she ask you to have any of his teachers fill out surveys for his behavior? How about you? Was your son's behavior typical or was he overstimulated? Personally, I would seek out a second opinion.

That said, I have been struggling with the idea of putting my 5 year old son on meds. The recommendation had been made well over a year ago for me to start considering it. I have brought my son for several opinions and every single professional has recommended meds for him. The last professional we saw was a child psychologist specializing in ADHD. Her opinion is that DS' ADHD is severe and until he is older and can find other strategies to help him focus, he will be best served by some medication.

I did get the prescription and dropped it off at the pharmacy however when we went to pick it up, we were told that it was no covered by our insurance because it is not prescribed for children under 6, that we would need an override from our doctor and I have not followed up to see if it was done Chat Icon

For my son its typical behaviour when we are there (parents). However its not how he is while he is in school .
We are lost as to know if this is behavioural, he lets it loose so he can get away with it , or our parenting technique is wrong .
