Autism Question

Hi everyone. I am usually on the pregnancy boards and such, I never actually looked to see is one existed.
I have a 10 yr old--11 yr old and twins on the way so i will come back here often.
Heres my question---questions....

Being that I am having muliples--i go to a high risk doc--I get often sonograms.
The sono tech where I go has a autistic child as well as two of my friends.
The nurse told me she feels it can be vaccine related and if she ever has another she will not give a mmr shot until after 2--closer to age three...

what does everyone feel about that/
Do u feel it can benefit?
I think I might hold off on vaccinating the twins for this reason and because at age three they will not be in school yet.
I also*** have MS in the family and that too--they aren't sure how it hits families.
Second question: I then got scared because they do reg sonos and 3d or 4d sonos and someone posted how Autism might be related to sonograms.
Now...I was told sonos are sound waves and it is safe.
What do u think>
I mean...how do Ii have a choice when I have to go?
What are your gut feelings on where this comes from and how it might be alleviated for some children>>>>>
Please give all imput.

Re: Autism Question

there has been no conclusive evidence that the mmr shot causes Autism. today, i believe all MMR shots are made without thimerisol. i also believe it is the same about the sonos. i have never heard that they have been linked to Autism.

you can check out this link:

etd to add that i will be vaccinating my daughter, and i do plan on delaying it.

Just curious, can I ask, why delay it?

Re: Autism Question

just a personal decision, since i am a spec ed teacher and i specialize in teaching children w/ autism. i *know* there is no conclusive evidence to link mmr vaccines with autism, but at the same time, autism is usually diagnosed around the same the shot is given (18 mos). so i figure, lets wait and see. not that i have any reason to think she *would* have autism, but as someone very involved in the field, it is always on the back of my mind.

I agree too. I used to work with kids with Autism and also a Special Ed. Teacher and it is scary knowing too much, and that it is being diagnosed more often.

Re: Autism Question

just saw the new commercial that 1 in like 166 babies have autism. how is a # like that possible unless we're doing something that's causing it?

I am with you on this one too, Joanna - I have been thinking a lot about this, as you know I am in the autism field as well Chat Icon

My own personal take is that autism is more genetic than anything else, but, if I can have the option to delay it, why not? I know I'll be a wreck at developmental milestone times as it is....Chat Icon

Re: Autism Question

We also delaying the shot. Along with some of the other shots they are giving that aren't necessary right now.
