Any ways to kick start labor?
Hey ladies! I'm 37 weeks today and when I went to the doctor on Monday he said that I was 2-3 cm dilated and he could see my membranes. I've been having slight cramping and back pain today, which I'm hoping are signs that labor will happen soon. Any ideas of ways to get this started?

Nope. Everything is just an old wives tale and I did them all. Spicy food. Eggplant. Walking. Sex.

We did the sex, spicy food, and walking wives tales. Just trying to think of anything. I know when DS is ready, he will come, but any little bit that can help I'm willing to try lol.

The key to the sex part is the ejaculation. Your DH has to ejaculate inside because the semen has prostaglandins that softens the cervix thus starting labor.

That par is true and I was fully effaced, just not dilated at all and needed to be induced. I was successfully induced though which that could have made a diff that my body was prepared...just didn't start labor.

Re: Any ways to kick start labor?
Pitocin No seriously I think they just come when they are ready no matter what you do. I was 3cm from 36 weeks and my OB was "sure he would be early". I went into labor on my own at 41 weeks and he was fully cooked :). Good luck you are almost there.

You're almost there! But you can easily be dilated like that for a few weeks. Also, i would wait before you try to induce. Dept of Heath has lots of info about inducing earlier than 39 weeks. Good luck! You'll be having a new bundle of joy any day now!

Thanks . Yea my doctor seemed pretty convinced I'd be early & I hope he's right. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I am so over being pregnant. I can't take the fact that I'm still getting sick & how swollen my feet & hands are getting. I know it will all be worth it in the end, but I honestly don't understand it when I have friends that say they enjoyed pregnancy

Re: Any ways to kick start labor?
Yeah those last few weeks are tough, you don't sound ungreatful at all! I remember crying at 40 weeks that he was never going to come and then when I went into labor at 41 weeks I was just shocked it was actually happening. Needless to say the last few weeks being prego were a cake walk compared to the first few weeks being a first time mom (in a very different way!) It is such an exciting time, I hope they fly for you and I'm sure I'll be right there again with this pregancy

Re: Any ways to kick start labor?
Absolutely nothing worked for me last time... I walked a ton, bounced on the ball, ate everything suggested, etc... I had to be induced 10 days late. If this happens again this pregnancy, I might try using my breast pump & see if the nipple stimulation works (I guess it would be safe to do, right?)... it's the one thing I didn't try last time.

If you're progressing on your own, get your membranes stripped. I was 2-3 cm and 65% effaced. I had my membranes stripped and was in labor in less than 24 hours.
