If you had a C-section for your first, did you decide to choose to do a C the second time, do a vbac or try vbac and end up with a C?

Tell me everything! You reason, your regrets, TIA!

I had twins the second time around so a VBAC was strongly discouraged. I may have gone for it if it was just one baby though. I was terrified since my first was an emergency C, but the scheduled one was really much easier. Recovery still sucked, but the surgery itself wasn't as bad.

Even though I am PG with #2 I chose Scheduled C because that is what I plan to do.

i'm pregnant with #2 and chose a C. I was in labor with #1 for 2.5 days after getting pre-eclampsia and ended up with a section anyway. I plan to avoid all that! plus it's easier to plan what i'll do with DS.

We are taking a wait and see approach. I had a csection the first time because DS was almost 11lbs and after three hours of pushing he didn't move an inch. If our second is measuring as big, we aren't even going to attempt a vbac. If the baby manages to be on the smaller side then we may try it. Either way I am really nervous to be honest! Both options kind of freak me out!

Re: if you had a c-section, for number 2 did you...?

I chose a scheduled c. I had a terrible labor experience the first time with no progress and I just didn't want to take the chance that it would go that way again. The c the 2nd time was SO much easier.

I'm surprised to see only one vbac on here. Seems so low.

Re: if you had a c-section, for number 2 did you...?

Haven't gone through it yet but I'm planning for a VBAC next month. Last time I had GD, was induced, and pushed for 3 hours. She was posterior and wouldn't descend. They tried everything to turn her but no such luck. My recovery was awful, my c/s was awful. I figure it can't really get worse than what I went through last time. I'd love to experience labor and I am hoping my body will do what it needs to do.

I really wanted a vbac. My OB said we could try but I had to go into labor on my own. They don't induce post c-section. If I didn't, then it would be a c-section. He let me go one day past my due date and my son was nowhere close to coming so c-section is was. I found it much easier the 2nd time around, maybe because I knew what to expect.

I had the option for both, but I chose a scheduled C.
I wanted them to help me clean up some very painful scar tissue and I also wanted a tubal ligation. I am so glad I did.

My first was a vaginal delivery 17 1/2 yrs ago. My second was an emergency section. It's been a csection since and will be again (knock on wood).

I'm having another scheduled c section. My first was scheduled bc I had a low placenta, so I had the option of both and ultimately chose the c section. Turns out I have a low placenta again, so if this one doesn't move I would end up with one anyway.

I tried for a vbac but at 41 weeks my ob wouldnt let me go longer so I ended up with a rcs. My rcs was worse recovery then my first IMO.

. I'm sure you've read this, but my friend who just had a successful vbac ,said one of the most important things she did was labor at home for a long time. She didn't arrive at the hospital until she was further dilated and it really helped. Is your ob supportive of your plans ?

Re: if you had a c-section, for number 2 did you...?

DS was breech so I had no choice the first time around. I still have 9 weeks to decide for this pregnancy but I think I'm leaning towards a scheduled c-section. It just seems easier to know when I'm going out of work, and arranging childcare for my son while I'm at the hospital. That being said, i went into labor before my scheduled c-s the first time around, so you can only plan so much!

Yes, that is my plan. OB is supportive; it's possible that he may not be available to deliver my baby though, so I am meeting with the other doctor in the practice who could deliver, at my next appointment - hoping she is also supportive! Trying not to get too stressed about it.

Same. I had my second 10 days before my scheduled date, but was full term. My ob would not allow me to try a vbac and I didn't want to take a chance. I would not have had one anyway as she came early

Re: if you had a c-section, for number 2 did you...?

I chose a c-section because when discussing it with my OB, he used words such as "devastating" and "catastrophic" when referring to the risks of a VBAC. Pretty much scared me into it, although I would've chose a section anyway. I'm glad I did because when the OB was closing me up, she mentioned that I had a lot of scar tissue from my 1st, and that my placenta was attached to my uterus in one spot, was very thin and most likely could've ruptured.

Depending on what study you look at, the risk of uterine rupture is about 1 percent for vbacs and there are also a list of risks with a repeat c section. Obviously, for those in that unlucky one percent it is horrifying ,but for the vast, vast majority of women vbac is a safe option. Eta : some studies place the risk of rupture in spontaneous, I unaugmented labor at under 1 percent,
