Gestational Diabetes Test?
So today at my 24 week appointment, I was given the script for the gestational diabetes test and told to get it done between 26 and 27 weeks if possible. I was told that I don't have to fast and can just go to the lab to get it done. A few questions:
1) Do I have to call and make an appointment?
2) Do they have a standing supply of the glucose liquid drink?
3) Will they ask me what flavor I want?
4) I've heard its easier to drink when cold -- do the labs automatically refrigerate the drink? Or is that a request I have to make?
Not sure if it makes a difference but I will be going to a Sunrise Lab. Thanks, ladies!

I was told to do fasting....
I did not make an appointment. I called to ask and they laughed at me pretty much.
The lab I went to had 2 choices of drink. Both refrigerated and non-refrigerated.

Re: Gestational Diabetes Test?
You don't have to make an appointment for a sunrise lab. I go to sunrise. Unless you are doing the 3hour test, that needs an appointment.
I was told to fast. If I were you, I wouldn't have too much sugar or carbs before you go to avoid possibly having to do the 3 hr.
I've done it three times now, they always only have orange flavor and its always cold. It's really not bad.

Gestational Diabetes Test?
I would fast beforehand or at the very least I would avoid carbs before the test. I didn't fast and I think that made my levels look slightly elevated. Cereal was probably a mistake ;)

Re: Gestational Diabetes Test?
1) I made an appointment online and you had to select the glucose test option.
2) They had a supply in the fridge.
3) For the 1 hr and the 3hr I was not given a choice of flavor.
4) Both times I went they just pulled from the fridge so they were cold. It's not bad to drink at all in my opinion...tasted like flat sprite to me (I had the lemon lime one). You just chug and get it down.

Re: Gestational Diabetes Test?
1) Do I have to call and make an appointment? You don't have to make an appt, but you will have a shorter wait time if you do. They take people with appts first.
2) Do they have a standing supply of the glucose liquid drink? Yes.
3) Will they ask me what flavor I want? Maybe, maybe not.
4) I've heard its easier to drink when cold -- do the labs automatically refrigerate the drink? Or is that a request I have to make? It really doesn't matter. It's a super sweet drink and you have 5 minutes to drink it. It's not gross tasting, just really sweet. I had to do it twice with DS and I have no recollection of whether it was cold or not.
