cpse/ School screenings?
Hi there we have a screening at our first choice school coming up. What does this entail? I am so nervous because Ds has been a real pill lately :/ he always thinks we are taking him to the doctor and freaks out. The fact that the school is in the same building as one of our doctors will not help lol. I am afraid he will have a tantrum meltdown and they won't want him. Reassure me please that they are used to this and won't hold it against him ;) thanks!

The school will not hold it against you at all. Honestly I think it's better if they can see his issues up front. When we took our boys to look at the school, the principal was talking to us at the front while a kid was screaming so loud we couldn't hear her. She apologized and said it was the child's first day at the school and they had her in a separate classroom with 2 aides and she was obviously upset. The principal shrugged it off and said hopefully the little girl will make it into the class today but if not there's always tomorrow. They are just trying to calm her down without feeding into the behavior.
It eased my mind so much. One of my boys basically got kicked out of nursery for screaming and tantrumming. The principal told me not to worry about it and he would definitely not be kicked out here.wouldnt you know he walked right in the classroom and sat right down??? I was shocked. Of course this was only on our initial visit.
The first few days of school for him were rough. His teacher said he cried, kept trying to grab his jacket and run to open the door. And then he would have a fit and try to rip the papers off the wall. This is their profession. They are trained to deal with these behaviors. They didn't feed into the behavior, redirected him, and eventually by the 3rd day he realized he was going to have to stay. He is so happy going to school now.

Re: cpse/ School screenings?
They are just trying to get an idea about whether or not the class they are considering for your child is a good fit. At one school, my DS had a toileting accident after not having one in months, where his diaper leaked onto his clothes and we left the diaper bag in the car. They had to give us a diaper from one of the kids in the class and DS cried for most of the time we were in the room. They still offered him a spot.
Don't worry, they have seen a LOT already.

Re: cpse/ School screenings?
lol :) that would so happen to us. My Ds has a very unpleasant habit of crying so hard that he vomits. I am going to target and the dollar store to buy new toys to bribe and distract him with :)
