Keep it in the fridge until defrosted. I heard putting it out on the counter can cause bacteria.

Ice cold water. Defrosts very quickly, just change the water periodically. I sometimes use the defrost function on my microwave as well.

This is what I always do. However, I always did wonder about thawing on the counter- once the meat is thoroughly cooked, wouldn't the bacteria be killed?

Put it in a dish with cold water and keep the faucet just barely on with cold water. I defrost 2 chicken breasts at a time this way all the time and it's really quick.

I have been defrosting chicken on my counter for years. Never have gotten sick. It's not like you are eating it without cooking it. If cooking can kill salmonella, I am sure it can kill anything else that may grow on it while defrosting.

I agree. My mom always defrosted chicken on the counter and I always do as well. Never gotten sick ever. I take it out at night and put it on the counter. Next morning I put it into the fridge until I need to use it.

Same as meat, defrost in meat drawer until ready to cook.

Re: What's the best way to safely defrost chicken?
I put it in a bowl with cold water. I let it sit out on the counter for an hour or 2 then put it in the fridge to finish. Usually by dinner time its defrosted.
Sometime the water freezes around the chicken int he fridge so check on it

Same. In 25 years of cooking, I have never gotten sick from my food. I've gotten food poisoning a few times from restaurants.
