Middle Country School District?
Thank you to everyone who posted in my last thread, it was SO helpful! Now that we're exploring a little further north, I'm not as familiar with the school districts. I know almost nothing about Middle Country School District except that it has two high schools. Things that I'm curious about are size, diversity (I graduated from Bay Shore, so this would be a positive), what the special ed programs are like (DS has speech difficulties), the difference between the two high schools (it's Centereach and Newfield, correct?). Feel free to FM me. Thanks!

Re: Middle Country School District?
My cousins both graduated from middle country. My Aunt is a special education teacher at Newfield. You will find people who will say it has problems. Is it 3village no but it's a pretty good school district. It will have some diversity. They offer a lot for children who require special services.

Middle Country School District?
My cousins kids go to middle country. Her daughter got into a very elite art college and got tons of merit scholarships. Her son has been very involved in sports, he's a HS junior. They both have great, nice friends. I'm not positive about special services because neither of them needed it. My cousin lives near north Coleman road in centereach.

Re: Middle Country School District?
I grew up nearby and worked in one of the high schools as a guidance counselor leave replacement. It's a good working/middle class district. Definitely not as diverse as Bay Shore. Programs are similar in Newfield and Centereach. The SpEd program was great when I was there - I thought they provided a lot of support for all kinds of special needs kids.

Middle Country School District?
We moved from Middle Country when my son was in 3rd grade. I didn't find them to be great for special education at all, there were a lot of issues I encountered along the way. If your child only has a speech issue though, I wouldn't worry about it. You should note that their largest elementary school has open classrooms (i.e. no walls). Which can be distracting. It also has no cafeteria so kids eat at their desk. That school is New Lane (grades 2-5). I know Stagecoach has classrooms with walls. Not sure about the other schools.

Middle Country School District?
I grew up in Middle Country and I don't think I turned out too bad lol : ). Definately a good district, not the best, not the worst. As the above poster said, New Lane has no walls. It is total open concept. Many kids might have issues with this if they have attention problems or are sensitive to sounds. The special ed program is not good at all and they are cutting programs left and right. They do have a great UPK program that alot of districts model after and they have IMO the best library on the island which includes a ton of great programs.
