Field Trip in District

I need a reality check- shouldn't a school send home a permission slip before they put elementary students on a bus and bring them to the high school building for a show? Is there some sort of exemption (outside of emergency evacuation procedures) that permits them to do this without informing parents?

I would imagine any trip on a bus other than to and from school should warrant a slip.

In my district it has gone both ways...it seems to depend upon administration...this year we needed a permission slip to go see a show at the middle school...in the past, we didn't require a permission slip for a trip to the same middle school for a safety presentation, but they sent home a letter informing and putting the onus on the parents to contact the school if they did not want their children to attend.

I just looked up District policy & it states that any trip taken from the school with the exception of bussing to home is considered a field trip. I never got a slip for this trip.

I'm betting that it isn't the teacher's fault - my bet is on the prinicipal not telling the staff they needed slips.

I am shocked!
If we tried this in the school where I worked, we would be in such hot water!

We signed something in the beginning of the year as a general slip for all in district field trips. Our school regularly goes to the other schools. We only sign trip specific forms for trips outside our town.

Our district sends a form home to sign with each field trip, even if it is 5 min away to another school.
