CALL YOUR INSUR CO
Wow a huge thank you to thebperson who posted to call our insur companys. I called and they were never informed of my pregnancy by the dr office meaning that if i had gone to the hospital to deliver i would have ended up paying out of pocket.

How could they not have been informed? Havent they been getting bills/claims for all of your pre-natal visits?? Thanks for the reminder again though, I'm going to call now.

I wondered this myself. If they don't know by now when I've been having to get preauthorized pregnancy related ultrasounds, then they've got a problem lol.

CALL YOUR INSUR CO
I got a letter from my insurance company saying I'm approved for a c/s and 4 days in the hospital. I don't get how these insurance companies are unaware due to the bills they are getting for prenatal visits.

Re: CALL YOUR INSUR CO
I have no idea but you need a separate authorization number to cover you for your hospital stay. So although they've clearly been covering prenatal visits I guess the hospital stay is an entirely different thing that they need prior approval for.

Oh definitely but how can the insurance company say they dont know someone was pregnant after being billed for 9 months worth of prenatal visits lol.

CALL YOUR INSUR CO
I called - I have UHC - they said that they didn't need to be notified ahead of time and that the hospital would take care sending anything they needed. The rep checked to make sure my hospital and any radiology/anesthesiology would be covered in-network.

I actually called today (after seeing this post haha) and they said the same thing. I have Empire BCBS for the 32BJ union and she said that before my due date the Obgyn should call and get pre approval for delivery. There's nothing I need to do.

Thank you so much for posting this; I've been meaning to do this. I have Empire and it turns out I needed to call...my OB office calls too but they encouraged me to call also.

CALL YOUR INSUR CO
I just did this today as well, thanks to the previous thread. Glad I called because while my primary does not need pre-authorization my secondary does. I was able to get the pre-authorization myself so now i should be set for when I deliver.

I have the same and I received a letter without calling after two months of visits. I'm assuming my OB sent the info in.
Now they call me almost daily to sign up for some nurse program. Thing is I already enrolled but didn't have time to speak to the nurse. Now they hound me. I just wanted to see if there were any monetary incentives.
