HSG Question
Can you ladies that have had this tell me the good, the bad and the ugly? I am a nervous wreck and dreading this...am I giving myself anxiety for nothing or is it really bad? TIA

Re: HSG Question
I had it done a little over a month ago, i took aleve an hour before the test and took more after the test. The test itself is not so bad, you do cramp during the test when they inflate the "balloon" inside of you. The worst was the night of the test and the day after, i mean i could barely walk it was horrible.
Good luck, keep in my mind everyone is different. That was one of the worst pain i've ever endured.

HSG Question
I think I prepared myself for the worst after reading a few experiences and it turned out not being bad at all. I took Motrin I think before the test. I didn't feel any pain during the procedure- just lots of pressure. I remember after they injected the dye he took a few pictures. Then he had me flip onto my stomach and took more pictures. Gave me the results then and there. I was able to walk fine to the train and commute home for an hour. Good luck - hope it's quick & painless for you!

HSG Question
I didn't take anything before the test. I didn't feel anything during or after either. I think it's different for everyone depending on if you have a blockage or not. I did not.

Re: HSG Question
Everyone is different. For me, I had cramping during and afterwards, but only for about 20 minutes. The cramping was bad, but then it was just gone and I felt totally normal. I also got pg 2 weeks later, so I can tell you it's all worth it in the end!

Re: HSG Question
Same for me.
I was completely scared of the procedure, and took a vicodin beforehand, though. I'm glad I did.

Re: HSG Question
I took the test and went to work , I was fine. You will only have real pain if there is a blockage. Otherwise its just some mild cramping.

HSG Question
No pain or anything for me. Was one of the easier tests IMO.

Not true at all. I had absolutely no blockages and I had severe cramping.

Re: HSG Question
I took advil before. I was really nervous, but it was nothing. I had very minor cramping after and didn't need any more advil. The worst part for me was the anticipation and that it was sort of a reality check that I am really going down this infertility road so that overwhelmed me.

Re: HSG Question
It's different for everyone but I had mild, period like cramping for the rest of the day and the next day. It wasn't too bad. I did have quite a bit of pain for about 20 seconds after they inserted the dye. It felt like a large, painful cramp but it was over very quickly. Good luck! I hope it is easy for you!
ETA- I also had no blockages so I don't think the pain is always directly related to blockages.

Re: HSG Question
It's different for everyone. Seems if you have blockages (I do) it's more painful. It's like intense period cramps. Like intense intense. If you have endometriosis, it's like CD1 type of pain.
I've had 3. First I was under anesthesia for another surgery. Second, I didn't take anything but once it was done, I felt nothing and was fine right after. Third time the guy was an a-hole and it really hurt and I bled like a period for a day after with a lot of cramps. For this one I took a Percocet - it didn't do anything.
So not only is it different for everyone, it's seems it's different if you need to do it again.
But I promise, it's quick. And hopefully you have no blockages. If none, you'll have some period cramps and be done with it.
Best of luck!

I had the same reaction, the night and few days after was the worst pain I've ever experienced. But everyone is different, so I hope this does not happen to you.

Re: HSG Question
Oh no! I know how much anxiety can play a role in this IF world. If you cancel are you going to reschedule?
It still needs to be done regardless.
Have you ever had a laparoscopy? For that you are out completely with anesthesia and they can do the HSG then. Ive had both. Once while getting a lap and once awake.
Maybe ask your DR if you can do a lap instead being you have Endo. It can be an all in one. GL!!

Re: HSG Question
My first HSG I had during my lap under anesthesia so I was sore after but I had many procedures done. Second was in 2013 and it was pretty easy. I was terrified! I had it done in Zwanger and they had a nurse with the Dr to hold my hand and help. I only felt some cramping but nothing severe and I have a complete blockage and previous uterine surgery. I took advil one hour prior and then some the night of. I had worse recovery after my egg retrieval. The worst part is having the speculum in and they make you lay your legs flat on the table. Just awkward but again, no severe pain. Everyone's different! I hope you get it done. It will be another check off on the list and I know you have been through so much.

HSG Question
I went for the HSG today. I was terrified. In all honesty it was not too bad. The initial pinch feeling at the very beginning hurt but for like 5 seconds and then he inserted the dye. They kept saying you may feel cramping but I didn't feel anything...my tubes are all open and we meet next week to discuss the best options for me. Now a few hours later I just took more Motrin because I am feeling a bit crampy but not terrible. I appreciate all the advice and info from you all.
