DIY moving furniture?

I really, really want a DR table and china cabinet, but new ones aren't really in our budget right now. I saw a well-maintained, inexpensive set on Craigslist. It's tempting, but I can't figure out how we'd get it from the seller's house to ours. Do we rent a UHaul and beg friends to help us? How do we keep it from breaking in transit?

Re: DIY moving furniture?

I moved one recently from a friend's house in a full-size pickup (2 trips). The china cabinet is HEAVY!!! Take any glass out of the cabinet, if you can (detach doors), and it makes it lighter, and less prone to breaking.
As long as the glass is out, there's really nothing that will get broken on the journey. You can use cardboard or blankets to keep the wood pieces from banging against each other.
Home Depot rents trucks that would be the perfect size for the whole set.
You'll really want 4 people to help move everything. 2 can theoretically do it, but it will be back-breaking, and the risk of dropping items is much higher.

This. This is how people picked up my parents dining room set, then rented a truck from home depot and had some friends help. When I moved I had my cousins help and used their pick-up trucks.
