Kids with food allergies & riding on the school bus

,y granddaughter will be entering kindergarten in sept. She has food allergies( tree nuts) she has to avoid all. Intact and ingestions that can even possibly contain any tree nuts. My daughter isn't sure if she will let her take the bus. She is concerned with kids eating something she could be exposed to (even though they aren't allowed to eat in the bus) or the fact that these buses are used for sports for older kids and if they are eating nuts, trail mix or anything. There could be nut oils on the bus. She worries about her touching something and putting her fingers I. Her mouth. She must have an epi pen with her all the time, but if she take the bus she won't have it. Anyone have any suggestions?

She can ask for a mini bus. A lot of allergy kids ride them.

mini bus and if it is that severe she can request a nurse on the bus as well.

A student in my classroom had a severe peanut allergy...he had a 1:1 with him on the mini bus (she wiped down the seats before he boarded). He also had a classroom aide who stayed with him throughout the day (we had the epipen in the classroom - this has never been the case for any other student I have had). This was done through his IEP, but if he hadn't had an IEP, he would have needed a 504.
