6 months. 18 weeks paid, 2 weeks vacation pay, the rest unpaid FMLA.

How long do you plan on going on maternity leave for?
As of now, 12 weeks FMLA. I would love to be home for at least 6 months though
2 weeks vaca
1 week sick (if I don’t use any by the end of September)
5 weeks State STD
4 weeks with zilch
I offered to work p/t from home the last 4 weeks and was shot down (we don’t work from home I was told)
My DD is 9/25, I really don’t want to come back until the beginning of the new year. How have you gone about extending your leave or do you arrange for it ahead of time?

How have you gone about extending your leave or do you arrange for it ahead of time?
I have to let HR know my anticipated date of return and which accruals to charge while I'm on leave. If I want to extend it further, I need approval.

I had just started a new job in April and had DD in June.
I had ZERO time off accrued.
They advanced me one week - paid time off- that i Had to work to pay back when I returned.
I only stayed out 8 weeks because I couldn't afford any more time off unpaid.
I posted a link the other day about how the US is only ONE of 2 nations in the WORLD that does not have mandatory paid time off for new moms.
It's truly disgusting.

UGH, i agree.
it's so sad and frustrating and despicable of our country. it also angers me that i have to use my sick days at work for the first 6 weeks (which takes away from my total accrued at the end of retirement, and that any over the 6 weeks comes off of seniority. something that men will never have to do!

I agree completely how awful our country is when it comes to maternity leave. Truly sad.
With my first, I was only offered 6wks without pay. Pathetic. I decided to just become a SAHM instead. Now I work from home (have a home daycare) so I obviously won't get paid time off. Instead I will use these months beforehand to save as much as I can and hopefully get at least the 6wks before I return to full time working stay at home mom. lol.

baby will come in late june but won't go back until thanksgiving-i'm a teacher so i'll get summer, and then the FMLA 12 weeks after. it's fortunate timing. baby will be about 5 months old.
This country is RIDICULOUSLY behind and cruel when it comes to maternity leave and new moms etc.
why do we put up with it?!
