Re: 12 weeks Thurs I lost my baby

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. I can empathize... I went through a similar loss in 2011... and also went through struggles to even get pregnant, which I think somehow adds to the devastation of a loss.
I remember not wanting to talk to ANYONE unless it was someone who had been through it... because I felt like no one understood. people struggle with what to say, and sometimes it comes off as trivializing the pain, but really they are just at a loss for what to say.
everyone would say "everything happens for a reason"... and I wanted to punch people for saying it to me... but looking back, I know they were right. I have a 2.5year old DD now... and had that loss not happened, I would not have her. but I carry that loss with me every day... I think of that baby, I named her, and she made me appreciate my daughter so much more, when my time came.
I know this is one of the hardest things you will ever go through, but you WILL pull through it. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I completely agree and felt the same way with my loss. I didn't have a D&C, I went into labor at 21 weeks after suffering with infertility, so I can sympathize with how you're feeling.

My best advice is to let yourself feel every emotion: mad, sad, bitter..whatever you're feeling is normal. The pain of a loss never goes away but it does get better with time. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you both, it really means a lot. My emotions have been up, down, hot, cold. I have been finding that keeping myself busy keeps me going. I let it out when I have to, but for the most part I am doing good emotionally. We spoke about finding out the gender at that new 10 week blood (which we wouldn't have been able to anyway since that is when my baby stopped growing), but we weren't going to do it anyway in case something like this happened. I think if I had to put a gender to this baby it would have been 1000x's worse.
I just feel like if I do get pregnant again all the joy has been taken from me. How do you go on to have a happy pregnancy when you found out at 12 weeks you lost your baby? I am sure once all the physical stuff of the D&C wears off I will be able to heal more emotionally. I have a DD who is almost 4 and I appreciate every single second I get with her, especially after this. She keeps me going, she is my world. Chat Icon

when my loss occurred in 2011, they didn't offer that bloodwork at the time. after my D&C though, the gender did come back with the lab results and i did opt to find out. it's just what i needed for closure. if you have a D&C and decide you want to know, you can ask, but there is nothing wrong with not wanting to know, if you think that will make it more painful emotionally.
i will say in all honesty that for ME, suffering a loss did take some of the carefree joy away from my pregnancies. after my miscarriage, when i finally got pregnant again, every dr visit, every sono was very emotional for quite some time. i would be tearing up waiting for the worst, and holding my breath until i saw the heartbeat. i did rent a Doppler that i used 1-2x a week for my own piece of mind, between the 12 week sono and then actually feeling strong kicks on a regular basis. between 7 weeks and 12, my dr did a few extra sonos for me, to relieve my stress a bit.
now i have a healthy 2.5 year old and am pregnant again... however i suffered a different loss in that, it was twins and i found out i lost one at 9 weeks. I'm 14 weeks now and still holding my breath. i go for sonos every 2 weeks but still. suffering a loss can be so traumatizing on our emotions.
i think having your daughter will help... it's something/someone else to put your energy and emotion into, to help not feel quite so lost. and yes, once the D&C is over and done with, and you can go back to "normal" life (or TTC again if you want to), it will get a bit easier. right now it feels like everything is on hold, and you are in the midst of it all. hang in thereChat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you for letting me know the gender comes back with the report. The tissue was sent for testing and I had no idea that would be on the report. I may have someone else read the report because my DH doesn't want to know the gender either.

i wasn't given a copy of the report. the dr got the report and when i went for my post-op exam, he asked if i had wanted to know
