Co-worker comments vent

Sorry in advance this will probably get a bit lengthy.
I work in a rather large company with a lot of pretty (obviously) opinionated jerks.
Lately, I have been receiving comments about how I look and it's just starting to get to me. I am 36 weeks, i have gained 29 pounds and trust me when i say, it's ALL Belly.
Mostly it's men, thinking they are being funny, by either making "waddling" comments (or actually mimicking a waddle) and I do not waddle. Standard questions about whether i'm going to "pop", am i sure there's only 1 in there, and suggestions that since wearing white makes me look "HUGE", maybe i should stick to wearing darker colors. These asinine comments usually just roll off my back and I try to tell myself that they are just morons. This is my third time around, so I've dealt with this crap before.

Today, though, I heard something that really bothered me. And it probably shouldn't have, but it did and I considered going to the ethics office because I have just had enough. Apparently a woman made some very loud comments yesterday in the cafeteria (I didn't hear them, but one of my friends did) about how dare I wear what i wear and saying how it's disgusting how i wear such "tight" fitting shirts that show off my belly, along with some other things but i dont know specifics.
I grow 9 pound babies. my belly IS big, but HOW DARE SHE feel she has ANY right to make comments about me, my body, or my clothing to other people! I got so mad, and then i got upset. I wear appropriate maternity clothing. It's not like i have half my stomach sticking out the bottom of my shirts, or my boobs spilling out the top.
I am just so fed up with people thinking they can just say anything they want about someone when they are pregnant. I had an email drafted to send to her but I deleted it.

it's like as soon as someone is pregnant all the jokes, comments about you wearing this tightly, you shouldn't be eating this, or drinking that start coming in........people, mind your own damn business.

oh and for the men....really...you talk to me when you start carrying babies.

Re: Co-worker comments vent

exactly. and that was what i had written to this woman: if the shape of my body currently offends you, too damn bad; don't look at me. You have zero right to make comments about me, my body or my clothing. I am not going to wear something different to make YOU more comfortable. Mind your own damn business.

But, i rethought it and figured i would just ignore. had my friend not told me, i wouldn't even know she said anything. I have been assured that she's just a bitter and jealous woman who finds any reason to say something nasty about anyone. But since my hormones are in overdrive, i'm feeling particularly emotional and vulnerable so it struck a nerve

That's just not cool. I would ask my friend not to repeat things like that to me in the future. Ignorance is bliss!!!

Re: Co-worker comments vent

people suck. I used to get annoyed for the opposite sort of comments when I was pregnant with #1. My coworkers were always pissing me off with the "are you sure you're even pregnant?" sort of comments because I really didn't "pop" at all until the very end. I used to hate that. I mean I could see how to them it may have seemed like a compliment, but to me they were just simply saying that everything I was feeling and seeing in the mirror was false. I WAS pregnant and I DID look it. Grr! It wasn't just pudge bubbling up on my belly - it was a BABY! lol. This time around I'm sure I won't show for a while again and I'm sure comments will bug me all over again, but I've learned to just brush them off. People seem to lose their filters when they're around pregnant people, and I think the hormones make it even worse. I think you were right to just delete the message and let it go. I, however, definitely WOULD say something though if this person continues to talk that disrespectfully. Absolutely insane!

people are jerks, sorry you have to deal with that.

and...you SHOULD show off your belly - you are carrying a human being in there and you should be proud!!!

If it gets that bad...go to HR or ethics!

Is this person older? Generations before us didn't embrace the bump and basically wore moo moos to hide their bodies. I don't think your friend should have told you because what's the point. It will only hurt you and the woman is obviously an opinionated arse. I'd probably be passive aggressive and make a comment in front of her so she knew I knew she was talking about me.

I've had two people separately tell me this week that I look ready "now" to deliver (I still have 4-5 weeks). Both were women.

I am deciding to laugh it off. Being pregnant is so special and we are so lucky to be in this position....screw them all and rock that belly!!! Chat Icon

I would go to HR. People clearly need sensitivity training again.

A lot of people are saying I look like I'm gonna pop and I'm due in July! Most people say oh you look so good and an older lady was saying how cute the maternity clothes are now compared to back in the day! I would def go to HR about the comment about showing your bump! That's just uncalled for and rude! It's hard enough finding clothes and stuff to fit and outfits to where everyday so people need to just mind their own business! I'm sure you look cuter than she does! lol

2 weeks ago (I was 20 weeks) DH and I went to a friend's house for dinner. When the husband answers the door he goes "look at you! You're starting to show already, he's going to be a big boy!" Mind you, his wife just had a baby in December Chat Icon It really amazes me how rude and inconsiderate people are to pregnant women.

Absolutely go to HR. You don't have to give names but you shouldn't have to suffer through this. It's emotionally abusive. I am so angry for you.
It's amazing how stupid & thoughtless some people are.
