based on the other post, I have a few ?s re: the rock n play.
1) What makes it so great?
2) Is there one specific brand or multiple?
3) What are it's features?
TIA!

rock n play
Never used it, never got it, DS never needed it.... He slept in the NICU for 5 days, then in the pack n play for another 2 weeks, then was in his crib in his room since then.

Re: rock n play
Unlike the pack n play, it's super easy to move around the house (esp with the baby in it), so I had the baby sleeping in it in every room during naps, including the bathroom LOL Also helpful if you have multiple floors, it's easy to fold and transport.
We also used it as a mobile bassinet/napper when visiting family.
Of course you can get by without it, but it was something I was surprised I used so much and had a lot of use.
I think the newer versions have vibrating.

rock n play
1- it's on an incline so it's great especially for a baby with reflux. It's also soft and cozy, makes the baby feel like they are swaddled/hugged
2-it's fisher price
3-we got the snugabunny one so its soft and cozy, easily folds and lightweight. Can take it anywhere, car, other people's houses. Bathroom so you can shower. It rocks. Deluxe vibrates.

I got the fisher price snugabunny rnp with vibrate feature. DD slept in it for the first 5 weeks and until she was about 6 months old, we would bring it with us wherever we went since it was more portable than the PNP. Definitely got more use than the PNP.

Re: rock n play
I got the plain old Fisher Price Rock and Play. There is absolutely nothing special about it to look at it but my God the thing is magical. I think because of the incline and maybe because it's like a hammock the baby is just so comfy in there. It's so easy to travel with (MUCH better than the pack and play), you can throw it in the car, it's amazing.
I also liked it when DS had croup at 3 months old. I never let him sleep in there over night but at that time I did because it helped him sleep better.

Re: rock n play
When I bought mine it didn't have the newer features like vibration or rocking, but it was the only thing that DS would sleep in for the first few weeks so for me it was a lifesaver. It is also portable.

Re: rock n play
BEST THING IN THE WORLD
It cradles the baby just right, it was the ONLY way my daughter would sleep! I also put her In The bassinet to get used to sleeping horizontal, but if I needed 5 hours sleep, rock n play it was!
They have more features now, but my doctor warned us against getting one of the ones with the "animal" cushioning, because the ears are extra fabric around the or face if they turn sideways.

Re: rock n play
So I received this as a gift with DD and when I used it at home she wasn't a fan(began using it as soon as we came home from the hospital). I could not get her to nap in it at all. When we took it to my parents house or anywhere else she would nap and even sleep in it but at home hated it.
I plan on trying it again for hopefully no issues at home.

We planned to use a bassinet, but DD wanted nothing to do with it. Then we tried the swing and it worked but takes up so much space so we bought the RnP. Love it.

Re: rock n play
We just used a swing for DS. We were in an apt and I could leave him in the swing in our room and hear him from anywhere. Now that we're in a house, I have the rnp for DD. I just leave that in our bedroom and she sleeps there at night. We have a bouncer for our basement and den and the swing is in our main floor in the living room. Lol. So basically I just have something for each floor of our house. Oh, and there's the crib, too, but she's only a week old so I haven't used that yet!

Re: rock n play
I like how simple and easy it is. I use it in the bathroom when I shower. Bring it outside when I want to sit on the deck. I bring it to my parents house for when we eat dinner there etc.

Re: rock n play
DD hates it lol she will only tolerate being in it for 10 minutes max. It really depends on how your child is. My DD is the kind of baby that prefers to be carried and watch all events so it's really personality.
