What kind of doctor should DH see for a semen analysis?
Being that my apt with Dr. San Roman is 5 weeks away I'm thinking it would be beneficial if DH got a SA before we went so that we have most of our tests done. Is there a specific type of doctor I should send DH to? A urologist? I'm pretty confused by all this. Someone mentioned just going to a local hospital for one, but can you do that? I'd figure you'd need a script for that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Your DH can get a script for a SA from a Urologist. That's what my DH did. He then went to the Andrology dept at Stony Brook to have it done. DH was also asked to get a scrotal sonogram done as well. Results for both the SA and the sonogram were available the following week when we followed up with the Urologist.
Not sure where you are located, but DH met with Dr. Howard Lynn in Smithtown.

Thanks, I'm in Farmingville so that would work for us. By any chance do you know if it was a long wait to get an appt.? I'm seeing some past posts that say they can take just as long.

What kind of doctor should DH see for a semen analysis?
My regular OBGYN gave me a script for my DH to get a SA at the NSLIJ Center for Human Reproduction. They than sent all the results to my OB and Dr. San Roman. Only thing is the lab you go to is at the hospital in manhasset.

my OB gave me the script for DH to get a semen analysis; we went to the lab in our hospital, they gave us a kit and then we dropped it off.
he can probably get a script for it from his regular family physician if he has one.

You are going to need tests done after the consult with the RE. They will be able to give you the script for the SA and your DH will need blood work also.
There won't be a delay in the start of the cycle since all the test you will need will take longer than the SA for DH.

Do yourself a favor and go to a urologist that specializes in infertility. I was in the same boat as you. And my DH went to a urologist recommended by his primary care. And after getting his results he didn't offer any suggestions such as supplements to help improve his sperm. He did had to do a second test with LIFIV before we started the IVF process.
