Child with end of Sept Birthday
My Son is starting Kindergarten 9/1, his birthday is 9/21 so not sure if we are having party weekend before or after but how does this work with his class?
Do we ask the teacher.....once we find out who that is for a class list and invite the class? The parents will have no idea who he is when the invite goes out. The kids from his pre-school he was going to I know already, but obviously no idea now that he is going into a new school.
Any advice?

Most schools if you send invitations to school you have to invite the whole class or the same sex as your child. My cousin's son birthday is 10/1 and she just sent a note asking how many kids were in the class for invitations and the teacher sent home a list of first names for her. She got a real class list later in the year but because of the party she actually got to meet a lot of the parents already.

Re: Child with end of Sept Birthday
My DD is a mid-September birthday. I e-mailed the Kindergarten teacher in advance and explained that I wouldn't get the class list in time to invite everyone to her birthday. So, she agreed to send the invitations home for me. I just asked her for the number of kids so I knew how many invites to give the teacher.
The other parents were excited (even the ones who didn't know DD) because it was the first chance for everyone to get together outside of school.

Dd's birthday is 9-23. We didn't invite kids from her k class, only kids from.pre-k and family. She didn't seem to notice.

Child with end of Sept Birthday
the day before school we meet the teacher - and she told me the number of kids in the class and she asked for me to send them in on the 2nd day of school - way to much to pass out first day
so I sent enough for whole class on 2nd day - the party was the weekend before my son's birthday on Spet. 22nd

My DS will turn 5 on the first day. I'm still uncertain about having a party for him because I don't want to be that parent that sends an invite home the first few days of school
I think we are going to wait and have a late birthday for him and his classmates in Oct. Gives everyone time to get to know each other (both kids and families)

my sons's is 9/28. We didn't invite any kids from his K class that year. No way was I inviting 23 kids he didn't know. We did his pre-k friends and family.

I don't get the "don't know my kid" thing. That is how your child becomes friends with the children. By doing things outside of school. Also how you meet other parents. This is Kindergarten, you are going to want to forge new friendships for your kids (and yourself possibly). I don't know a single parent that would turned off by receiving an invite from a classmate they have only known for a week.

My wallet does not afford for me to invite 23 kids from a class, plus other friends, plus family. It just isn't financially possible.
Trust me, he made friends fine during his kindergarten year without me forking over major bucks for a party. He befriended the kids he liked and got along with the best and we set up play dates outside of school. That is how I met and got to know the parents.
The following year, he invited the kids he wanted from his school to his party.

That is why I actually want to invite the class so they can hang outside of the classroom and I think it's a great way to meet the parents.

No one said you had to invite the whole class. We had a Halloween party at the beginning of October in Kindergarten, not really knowing anyone. Invited just girls. Obviously you don't HAVE to invite anyone you don't want to, I was specifically commenting on the fact that people are hesitant to invite people they don't know to a party.
