2 yr old- Scared of the bath! Help!!!
My 2 yr old DD is all of a sudden petrified of the bath. This is the child that has looooved her bath time since birth... Splashing, playing, singing, etc. we never had a problem putting water over her head- she laughed! Once in a while we would take down the shower head and rinse her and she was fine with that too.
Then a few days ago she was at her grandmas house and there was no bathtub, just a shower stall. My mom tried to shower her and she freaked out. Now she is scared of our bathtub and refuses to go in. I even tried to get into the tub with her to show her that's it's fine but she clings to me & screams. I asked her what she's afraid of but she just cries. This has been going on now for almost a week. Any advice?

SAME thing happened to my ds. He loved bath time. Then a switch flipped and he went nuts. Hysterics. I went in the tub with him too. Didnt help but atleast i could hold him down. Good news, it was a very short phase. And back to loving it. Throw in extra toys, blow bubbles in the tub for her to pop. Pull out all the stops lol good luck

Same thing happened with us. We took dd1 to Florida at 17 months. My inlaws have an vacation condo there and the tub is not kid friendly. Fancy shower curtain etc not was terrifying for dd so we had to improvise.
Well fast forward to when we got home and she was still scared of the bath. This went on for weeks! Dh would have to hold her over the tub while I washed her. It was a nightmare. Then dh tried putting on a swimsuit and getting in with her and it slowly got better. Then she was fine to go in by herself again and enjoy it. It was a rough few weeks.

We went through the same thing as well with my two- year old son. What finally got him in was putting his favorite toys in the tub but then it was a hassle to get him out!

I really don't understand the thought process of children. This reminds me of my 4 yr old DD who was riding her bike AWESOME one day (speeding past me on the track, no falls, etc) then the next day she was scared to death, wouldn't get on, crying hysterically when i tried to help her. What?! We just kept encouraging her, then a week later when she did try again, i held onto her the entire time. 2 days of that & she was back to riding like normal. What the freak happened? If she didn't get hurt, why was she suddenly scared? Same with your DD. If she didn't almost drown then why are you suddenly afraid of water? I really don't get it. But I think all you can do is keep up with gentle encouragement & try to make bath time as fun (and quick) as possible. :-/

My daughter likes to bring her baby doll I the tub with her. Maybe that will work.
