Driveway Material
What are the pros/cons of having a driveway made of asphalt, concrete, or gravel? We already ripped our driveway up and are about to get some estimates. Our driveway is very large (fits 6 cars and is long) so I know concrete would be so expensive. We also wanted to do belgium blocks around the border,

Re: Driveway Material
We got out driveway done last year and did concrete. After the winter it has already cracked. I don't think it's supposed to do that so quickly though.

Re: Driveway Material
Belgianblocks are the expensive part! We priced concrete vs pavers and it was basically the same price. We got full pavers done with belgian blocks on the one side were it wasn't graded properly.

Re: Driveway Material
We have belgian block lined driveway with a belgian block apron. (As well as a belgian block divider, but that's strategic more than aesthetic. )
We had pea gravel for over 10 years and I loved the look of it, but it was a pain in the butt during the winter (when plowing, much of our gravel ended up in our neighbor's lawn or down the road) and little pebbles always found their way into our home. Nevermind trying to walk in it in high heels. The driveway still needed to be maintained in that you needed to do weed control, replenish the stone and "rake" the driveway to even out gravel (my DH has a tractor with a harrow rake attachment, so it wasn't such a big deal for us.)
This past summer we had it paved with blacktop. For a 4,000 sq ft driveway, I think it was 8k. I believe the belgian block work we had done (some edging and the divider) was around 3k. (Most of our edging was already in place, along with the apron, so that didn't need to be done again.)

Re: Driveway Material
My parents have a red rock driveway its a pain to shovel in the winter, kills your feet if you are barefoot and want to run out to the car real fast. The rocks wind up everywhere too.
