Has anyone done a Gas Conversion during the winter?
Any issues? Trying to figure out if we should do it in January or wait until spring.

Has anyone done a Gas Conversion during the winter?
We did in in November, right after Sandy. After having no heat (or electricity) for 2 weeks, I wasn't thrilled to have another day of no heat, but it was really no big deal - other than being cold in the house for almost a whole day. I don't know if it's a problem for the process or the workers. It was cold out when we had it done, but not middle of winter freezing.

That's what I am afraid of most. I'm afraid of frozen soil & the job maybe not being done as carefully as it might be in more comfortable weather.

we did ours this past halloween. if you remember it was a cool day. they came at 7:30 and were gone by 4:30. Early in the day it was a bit chilly because we kept the front door open so they could bring in their tools, the new boiler & take out the old oil tank. Personally I'd do it. My husband and my dad stayed there and I spent the day out. Maybe that is something you could consider?? I feel as though the soon the conversion the better & you'll save on oil for this winter

In January would make me nervous with the thought of pipes freezing while there is no heat going into the house. It really would depend how cold in January it is.

I know. That's my problem. I feel like I think it will be mild weather but you can't predict.

Heat the house really good leading up to that morning. The pipes will never freeze that quick.
I did electrical work in mid January one year when it was near 0 with winds. The electricity was off all day which meant no heat. By the end of the day it was chilly but by no means freezing.
I would do it asap. I love having gas now!!!

Great Tip, thanks! What about the frozen ground/soil? Should whatever machine they have to break through should be able to handle it?
soo many questions! lol

It will be fine. The ground here can still be excavated in the winter. Its not that cold.

We did it in February one year and it was totally fine. We already had gas into the house though (for the stove) and we were just converting from oil heat to gas.
