Re: Winthrop recently?

I delivered there in June. My only advice is to bring a pacifier if you are thinking about giving one to your baby. They didn't have any to give me and refused to look for one!

Winthrop is very big on breastfeeding and I was given a lecture at 2am right after I gave birth earlier at 10pm on the benefits of nursing (with a little flipchart!). I explained that I nursed my older daughter and was nursing my new baby too....but I got the lecture and was not given a pacifier for my screaming baby due to potential "nipple confusion".

I had my mom bring one the next day. I had no idea that the hospital wouldn't provide one.

I think it's only recently that they don't provide the pacifier.

Re: Winthrop recently?

Just delivered there 12/10. I was there 3 nights. Do you have specific questions? I delivered there in 2013, & it was a pretty similar experience. I had really great nurses this time. There really were amazing.

Re: Winthrop recently?

I delivered 12/9. I was not pressured about breastfeeding (I was going back on meds that would not allow me to) but no one really questioned me when I said I wasn't BFing. The nurses were very nice about taking DS to the nursery at night. I had a really rough labor and delivery and they told me to rest up. I did have to share a room which was a little rough. Nurses and doctors were all great especially in L and D. They kept me calm when things got scary. Overall a good experience.

I delivered there 6 months ago. I did not breast feed and I never felt any pressure to. They do only give you two nursettes of formula at a time though. All of my nurses this time around were really nice. I had a c section and they took the baby to the nursery at night no questions asked so i could get some rest. I had to share a room for a couple of hours after delivery until they had an open private room.

Re: Winthrop recently?

When I delivered nearly 2 1/2 years ago, I found them actually overbearing with breastfeeding to the point where they were turning me OFF to the idea!!! I actually was really annoyed by it.

Long story short, I'm still nursing. So, obviously there was no lasting impact. It's nice to read it seems like they've laid off a bit.

Re: Winthrop recently?

I delivered there last month. The nurses were very nice and helpful. They did not seem as pushy as they were 2 years ago regarding breastfeeding and keeping the baby overnight. I don't know if it was because I knew what to expect this time. When I was there 2 years ago it was very different from my 1st 2 experiences and not for the better lol.

I deliver e there last week. Bring your own pacifiers. Baby stays with you. They are pro breastfeeding. Nurses and staff were all very awesome. Really good experience. I was high risk and baby was evaluated in the room so I could spend the first minutes and hours with baby- got to do skin to skin right away which was extremely important and I was high risks. Truly was a wonderful experience!! Feel free to on me with any other questions!

Glad I found this! Was going to ask some of the same questions as mentioned above.

What type of formula (nursettes) do they provide? If they are not going to be more open about bottle feeding, I want to be prepared because I am not breastfeeding.

As for the baby staying in the room, when I was at South Nassau, I sent my baby back at night so I could get several hours of rest considering the little rest you get when you get home! How are they with this?

Pushiness does not bode well with me and after having a late term loss in 2014, I'll be damned if I am going to have someone lecturing me about the way I feed or do things with my child, my living child.

They gave him Similac Advanced which we are still using.
They took DS both nights no questions asked. My problem was the maternity ward was packed so I had to share a room and she kept her baby with her. Obviously not her fault but I couldn't sleep. No one seemed pushy but everyone has different experiences.

I delivered there a couple weeks ago. I don't think I could've asked for better care. I chose to breastfeed and the nurses were so helpful with teaching me. I was fortunate to not have to share a room. good luck!

They gave me similac advance with my DD (8 months ago), I remember with my first they had enfamil newborn so I guess if you have a preference you can ask... I only formula fed and they didn't give me a hard time about it but they did only give me a few nursettes at a time so I had to keep asking for them when I needed more. I had a C section and needed rest and they took the baby to the nursery at night no questions asked.
