Exercise questions

What did you do to stay active during pregnancy? I gained 45+ pounds with my other pregnancies and really want to try to avoid that this time. I had been doing 21 day fix exercises prior to being pregnant although I haven't done them as often over the last month or two. Did anyone do these exercises while pregnant?

What about ab exercises? What, if anything, did you continue doing? What did you stop doing and when? What about things that strengthen your core like planks? I plan to ask my doctor about exercise, but I haven't had my first appointment yet.

Exercise questions

you can exercises while preg as long as you have always exercised. stating a new program or lifting wts (lets say) would be a no no. Always ask your Dr before starting.

Walking is always good.

ex, my zumba instructor taught classes until she delivered with all 3 preg. I always felt bad for the baby being bounced around lol

Re: Exercise questions

I am 35 weeks and have been working out my entire pregnancy so far. Before getting pregnant I was working out 5-6 days a week (intensely, classes, running 5-6miles a day, weight training, etc.). Once I found out I was pregnant, I was nervous but wanted to continue. My 1st pregnancy was a triplet pregnancy and I was told I couldn't do any physical activity from 6 weeks. In the beginning I continued going to the gym 4-5 days a week. I would still run, but maybe just a mile and then walk a mile or two and I continued taking 1-2 classes per week for I would say the first 20 weeks. I also would do lighter weight lifting and I did stop all ab workouts as well as anything that including jumping. After 20 weeks until now I have definitely decreased my routine more (especially as I became further along). I no longer run as its too much straining on my body. I usually walk 2-3 miles. I still do light weigh training and take 1 class a week (but I definitely have taken it down a notch and put in my own breaks). I am also only going to the gym now 3 days a week max. I hope to continue until I deliver. I am hoping for a VBAC so I am hoping staying active helps with that. I would ask you doctor about what you can and cannot do. My doctors were pretty fine with everything since I was working out frequently prior.

Exercise questions

I ran 6 days a week and lifted weights until 2 days before my DS was born. If you do exercise, make sure you also do pelvic floor exercises.

Do you think the pelvic floor exercises are still necessary if I'm going to have my 3rd c-section?

I'm really impressed that you ran until the end. I felt like I had to pee every 5 seconds when I jogged at the end of the second trimester last time. I think I gave it up somewhere between 28 and 31 weeks.

I stopped exercising when I became pregnant due to bleeding. I can't imagine running with this belly Chat Icon

Exercise questions

I exercise 5x a week at 26 weeks. I take barre classes, prenatal yoga, and run. I ran regularly before pregnancy so kept it up---much slower and much shorter distances but it makes me feel good and my doctor is completely on board.

I've done a ton of research on ab exercises because I'm very afraid of diastasis recti. You want to avoid the following ab exercises:

Frontal planks (and can do side planks on your knees)
Full push ups (you can do them on your knees)
Crunches and sit ups
Twisting exercises
Ab exercises where both feet are off the ground

I do a lot of transverse abdominal work to keep my inner abs strong and ready for childbirth. But I stay far away from the above list of ab exercises.

Yes! Your pelvic floor is weakened due to the extra weight you're carrying around. People with c sections also wind up with prolapse issues.

When you do the kegels make sure your isolating only the kegel muscles. It is easy to overcompensate with your abs or back muscles.
