Center based vs typical preschool
I have my daughters transition meeting on Thursday. She turns 3 next week. Her Aba therapists and I feel she will benefit in a typical preschool in September. She has an autism diagnosis that we don't feel is truly accurate and sge gets speech. Everything she is involved in is typical. So my question...if they suggest center based at her meeting, can I say I want her in a typical preschool? Will she lose her services? Can I request a SEIT as somewhat of a medium?

Re: Center based vs typical preschool
I think you are fine to suggest a typical preschool. Children are supposed to be in the least restrictive environment. One of my twins used to go a private school nursery (my other twin flat out refused to go and would scream and the school called me constantly). Anyway, when I had them evaluated through CPSE it was originally offered to me to keep the one there (think the district was happy because I was paying for it rather than get it for free), but he was not developing the way he should be plus I wanted them in the same school so they offered me a center based which I took.
If the district tries to say anything, I would just reiterate you want to try the least restrictive environment and you and her therapists are on board about it because she will be receiving support (through therapy). You can always tell them if it doesn't work, they can always reconvene.
Good luck. Keep us posted!

Exactly what her ABA teacher told me. She is totally on board with me and said I'm in the drivers seat.
