Tamiflu while Pregnant?
Hi everyone, new to the forum but desperately looking for some insight.
I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first and just tested positive for type B flu. :(((( My OB prescribed me Tamiflu saying that the risks of not taking are higher than the risk of taking, but I am so worried to take this so early on. I don't know that it is the right decision and I am wondering if anyone else on her has taken Tamiflu while pregnant or in their first trimester?
I trust my doctor but she made sure to tell me there are no studies done on women while pregnant, which concerns me.
In my eyes, I don't know that the benefits outweigh the risk. If anyone has dealt with this please give me some insight. Thanks in advance! :(

Re: Tamiflu while Pregnant?
Honestly, I wouldn't take it. And I am one who was super laxed while pregnant, ate and drank whatever I wanted. Tamiflu actually scares me, even not pregnant. I was super sick a few years back and they swore I had flu, and wanted me to start on it before my swab test even came back. I refused. Turns out I didn't have flu- so thank goodness I didn't take it. But I just don't like what I read about side effects...and that is NOT pregnant. If I were pregnant, I'd DEFINITELY not take it.
What class drug is it in terms of risk to fetus? Do you happen to know?
Also, it doesn't cure the flu, just shortens it's duration. I'd rather be sick a few more days than take it That's just me though

Re: Tamiflu while Pregnant?
I had the flu while pregnant and I did not take the Tamiflu. My primary doctor called my OB and they discussed my case and they both agreed I should not take it.

How badly are you feeling? I would get a second opinion from your primary care doctor hope you feel better soon

I'd probably take it. A severe flu virus is dangerous during pregnancy. I agree with your OB- benefits outweigh the risks.

I would probably take it, as long as both your OB and Primary Care Physician are in agreement. A fever early in pregnancy is known to be very harmful though it doesn't appear that there are many studies on the effect of Tamiflu on pregnancy (I could be wrong but it does not appear there are many studies on this). So I think I'd be more worried about flu symptoms affecting my baby than Tamiflu.
There definitely aren't many studies on the effect of Tamiflu but that's also because women aren't willing to join in those studies. It's similar to why there aren't many studies on other things that they warn us about in pregnancy.

Re: Tamiflu while Pregnant?
I was diagnosed with the flu last week and was 15 weeks. The doctor said that if he was talking to his wife, he would tell her to NOT take it. But he said to call my OB and if they said it would be okay, he would write the script. Speaking to the OB, she basically said that I was already 2 days in, I might as well tough it out...better to be safe than sorry.
