wall to wall carpeting
Anyone use HD or Lowes for wall to wall carpeting?
We went through Empire for our other rooms, and the wear and tear after a couple years doesn't match their high prices, so looking to use someone else this time.
Thanks!

Re: wall to wall carpeting
Empire is so AWFUL. We used them when we bought our house and we were SO unhappy, never again. As we've replaced those carpets from Empire we've used Carpet Depot on Middle Country Rd in Lake Grove. (I think they have some other locations on the island too) They are GREAT!!!! They have really good prices, a very nice selection, and they did a really great install. I highly recommend them! In fact, we're headed there this week for a new den and bedroom carpet.

We used Lowes for carpeting in our basement / play area. They did a great job, we're very pleased.

wall to wall carpeting
Years ago when I had a co-op, I used Home Depot to carpet the bedroom and Empire to do the living room. The bedroom carpet from HD was so much better than the crap from Empire. The quality of the carpet itself and the installation were both better from HD.

We've used Homedepot several time for carpeting in our basement. It holds up great and they were quick with the installation. I believe they have promotions and run free measuring and installation deals.

We have used HD twice and had great experiences both Times. With carpet you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap carpet it won't last long, won't clean as well and won't feel as nice.

I'd avoid big box stores - the quality just isn't the same.
I swear by Village Carpet in West Hempstead. Great service, tons of options, and pricing was very reasonable.

Re: wall to wall carpeting
HD and Lowes subcontracts out the installation service, so you don't always get the exact same service as a friend or neighbor did. I used HD, and bought the carpet based on the brand (Mohawk), so I knew the carpet quality was really good. The installers that we had also did a great job. 7 years later, it still looks brand-new. They also moved a large entertainment center for me from upstairs to downstairs, which they didn't have to do.
