consumers kitchen
We r using a contractor who apparently uses consumers for the cabinets so we pay him and he pays consumers. Apparently consumers will require 1/2 deposit for total cost of cabienets up front. Is this the norm? Then our contractor requires 2k upfront at signing so that alone is 12K just at signing. Seems like a lot? total cost is 55K. Thoughts? I'm nervous...

Re: consumers kitchen
We did not use consumers however our cabinet store (who we paid directly) required 50% up front upon ordering. I was annoyed but apparently this is fairly standard.

Re: consumers kitchen
I used them and the totally screwed up our order and when we confronted them they did nothing . Said they thought it would look better the way they ordered it ... Aka loopholes and ordered cheaper things and charged a higher price . Check everything before installation

Re: consumers kitchen
I think the costs part is totally normal. Consumers wants to make sure that you are committed and won't walk away once they order the cabinets if you find something cheaper or better. i know my husband does 1/3 upon signing contracts, 1/3 upon beginning the job and 1/3 upon completion for construction costs.
I've seen some beautiful consumers kitchens, but I've heard some horror stories too. My dad used them for years as a kitchen contractor and walked away from them because of the way they treated his customers and didn't make things right. Forgetting to order kitchens, horrible customer service.

I'm thinking that it's a pretty low amount, actually. It's between 1/4 and 1/5 of the total. 1/3 upfront is common. The contractor shouldn't have to front the cost of building supplies. It also shows that you're committed to the project.

We were going to use consumers for our recent kitchen project and they required half up front as well so that is normal. Depending on what line of cabinets you order from and the door style the project can get very pricey!

I used consumers and my parents used them multiple times. Yes 1/2 up front. We never had issued. We even had something come cracked and they took care of it right away.
I would use them again in a heartbeat.
