Deck vs patio
Right now in our backyard we have a wood deck. Many of the boards are in bad shape, we tried to use one of those "deck over" paints to try to restore it and that didn't work (would not recommend, the paint is chipping). Now I am wondering whether to replace the deck (probably with composite wood as I don't want to have to deal with the wood going bad again in a few years) or go with a paver patio. Does anyone have experience with choosing between the two (pros/cons) and have cost comparisons? Tia!

Deck vs patio
We actually have both in our yard- odd I know but it's how we bought the house. I like my paver patio better, easy to wash down etc. the wood patio is in good shape but some board are a bit uneven and it makes me crazy I always trip. That said- paver patio is my preferred

Re: Deck vs patio
We have been getting quotes for both. A deck is way more expensive. I really love wood but the labor and materials are just too much money. We're going with a patio

Re: Deck vs patio
PATIO for sure. Decks often harbor animals under them, rats love to make homes under them, etc.

Deck vs patio
I would go with a patio over a deck. The maintenance on a deck is more time consuming. I am not sure where you live, but I am in Nassau on a 60x100 lot and my neighbor has a deck. I feel like we share a backyard whenever they are out on theirs because they can see everything we are doing. So I also find them to be an invasion of privacy when living on top of each other in Nassau.

Re: Deck vs patio
Thank you all. I figured a patio was less maintenance but I was reading that there possibly could be drainage problems for a patio vs. a deck? Anyone have any issue with this?

The patio should be pitched away from your house.
