WWYD?

I'm starting my 1st IVF cycle in June. My RE recommends PGS due to my age, I'm 39 and b/c in the past 16 months I had a miscarriage @ 8 weeks followedby a D&C and then 3 chemical pregnancies. In that time we did 5 IUIs, 3 on Femara and 2 with injectables. I'm on the fence about PGS. It's expensive. $5000 oop and there is potential risk to the embryo that my RE said is very slight. I'm just nervous that I'll only have a few embryos and then maybe 1-2 healthy ones, if that, after testing. Not sure if not doing the PGS would be a big gamble for me. Any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks.

MY RE said they would probably do multiple cycles to get a bunch of embryos and then do the PGS. At least that is how I understood her. I never got to that point because other thing sin my life got in the way but I would ask the question.

My RE believes it is all egg quality. I have had every blood test under the sun and that is my only disgnosis. I had a tissue sample done after my D&C last year and it was a Trisomy 7 which is a chromosomal abnormality.

Re: WWYD?

Remember, its only a suggestion doctors give; not a requirement.

Yes it is expensive; and sometimes it helps. But for me, $ is a factor unfortunately; and while it is recommended to me; I opt against it.

The one thing that does throw me off with PGD/PGS is there are plenty of embryos that come back normal; and sometimes still don't take. It's not an 100% guarantee. If it was; I would 100000% do it. But I know its not.

And because of that; I'd rather not know; Again, JMO.

I would do it at age 39 to increase information or limit risk of M/C. Or I would just transfer more than one embryo if I did not do it.

I would only transfer 1 embryo at a time because I already have a 2.5 yr old and we really don't want twins. I did read those articles which makes this even more confusing. My fear is that if I don't do the PGS and the IVF fails, I'm going to regret it, yet there is the potential that with PGS, we would not be implanting an embryo that could in fact be healthy.

Re: WWYD?

I opted against solely for the financial reasons. and honestly, there is no guarantee anyway.

I was 36 when I started, 37 when I finished. Egg quality / age was my issue and two cycles didnt work for me. I didnt respond as well as they expected based on all my #'s.
PGS would not have made a difference and I had very little to work with.

I'm a little confused. How many embryos do you think you will wind up with on day 5 for the testing? For ex, if you only end up with 3, are you saying you would not do 3 transfers of one (since you don't want to risk a twin pregnancy)?

Re: WWYD?

I am saying that at end of the day, I am hoping to have at least a couple of healthy embryos after the PGS testing. Then I would do a FET but I would put back in only one b/c I don't want twins. If that embryo did not result in a pregnancy then I would do another FET to try again.
